The drone footage makes this look rather more heroic than it was.

The truth? I got halfway down this track—and chickened out!

The Discovery was perfectly willing. Its driver decided not to push his luck.

I’m a traveller, not a technical four-wheel driver. A second set of eyes would have helped.

Where’s my main man Dan from Torr Overland when I need him?

Still, I’ve made it all the way here in a standard Discovery 4, on standard-size all-terrain tyres, with a BootCamp in the back.

Sometimes the right decision is knowing when to turn around.

I had a lot of fun, got a few decent photographs and came back with myself and the Discovery intact.

I reckon that counts as a good day. There's always tomorrow.

My Discovery met a girl in Montenegro.

She’s a little older, but beauty is more than skin deep. Let’s call it patina. 😉

She comes equipped with an advanced expedition rack, secured using a proprietary gravity-based attachment system.

Things moved quickly. She wanted to see his sleeping arrangements.

Unfortunately, we never caught her name…

Can anyone tell me her make and model?

Dayo Clinckspoor is on the road again.

I’m looking forward to his next film.

He’s the filmmaker who has probably inspired my travels more than anyone else.

Light. Simple. Free.

His filmmaking is equally unencumbered.

Simple, beautifully composed shots that need no words of explanation.

No music to prop them up.

And, along the way, he motivated me to pick up a camera and keep trying to tell a better story.

A story that doesn’t need words.

Still learning.
