Denim of Iniquity - How it all began…
I’ve been sewing since I was 10 years old, cutting up any old clothes that nobody wanted! Back then we’d never heard of upcycling, but we re-used things wherever possible and recycled without even thinking about it. We would mend and make do and be excited if an older cousin had grown out of their clothes and they came our way! It seemed a natural progression
to study Fashion Design and end up in the clothing industry. Forty odd years later I’m still sewing with my business from home, but more than anything I love making gifts for friends and family. During the first lockdown in 2020 I was trying to think of something that I could make for my partner’s birthday and decided to make him a new apron for the copious amounts of BBQ’s he loves to cook! I noticed that the shape of an inside leg on a pair of jeans could also become the perfect shape for an apron edge and so the first apron was created. He loved it and after showing a few friends, the orders started coming in and I thought I’d open an Etsy shop. All I needed was a name…
Whilst attempting to take some photos of the first few aprons in the garden, my partner was busy cooking a BBQ and the wine and beer had started to flow. He disappeared for a while and when he came back he was standing at the BBQ wearing nothing but his denim apron! Whilst crying with laughter I took a “cheeky” photo and it was his lightbulb moment,” Denim of Iniquity” was born! Thank you for visiting my page.
