Enjoying a blissful couple of days staying with friends at Bowness . Feeling very thankful to have sunshine & timing just right to be enjoying the wafts of the beautiful wisteria whilst lazily reading a magazine with my morning cuppa.

Back in the Spring one of my lovely young sewists, Poppy, asked me if I would help her recreate a outfit for her to wear to her concert at Wembley.
We had such a fun creative time finding a base pattern, sourcing suitable fabrics & playing around with the adaptions until we ended up with this!
We took our time, treated it as a great learning project with lots of different techniques learnt along the way.
It’s been such a joy to guide Poppy through this make and I am delighted to share the result! Poppy tells me she got stopped by lots of people at the concert, just imagine how thrilling it would have been to tell them she had made it herself!

🧵I love how co-ordinated these friends’ pyjama shorts ended up.
Sewn over 2 lessons for their first venture into making their own clothes.
🧵My ‘sew-with-a-friend’ lessons for two are a great way to get individual help with learning to sew whilst also spending quality time with a family member or friend.

As it’s the I thought I would show you the ‘Rejoice’ bunting that I made for my family to use at times of celebration 🥳. Made as a more sustainable way to decorate the home & hopefully something that will be enjoyed for years of family events! 🎉

I never cease to get that ‘sewing makes me happy’ feeling when sitting down to make gifts for loved ones or clothes for myself 🪡🧵

It also makes me very happy to be teaching others to sew - from young to old, nervous to enthusiastic, alone or with friends!

Enjoyed an autumnal wander this morning accompanied by an interesting episode of the SEAMSIDE podcast with UK banner maker

I loved hearing how she feels her use of colour & extravagance with the banners that she makes and the clothes she wears can be de-escalating.

Also how the act of sewing, quilting or knitting etc can be a push back to the things we’re not happy about…”There’s something deeply anti-capitalist about it to me because you just can’t make easy cash from it, it’s slow & long & that just feels so radical to me it feels like such a pushback against everything that I don’t want to be a part of”
