From farm to garment 🐑
Since falling down the wonderful rabbit hole of hand spinning I’ve always had the end goal to go from fleece to jumper. Now this isn’t quite that but close. I spoke about ’s shed blend in my last post. It’s a very rustic/sheepy blend that is the result of gathering the left over fleece from British wool shearing courses. I love that this beautiful British wool isn’t wasted and can be made into something beautiful.
I chose to go chunky with my spinning in keeping with the rustic, wild nature of the wool. Then the stars aligned when .watras released her wrap vest pattern. Perfect for this earthy yarn 🌱

Current works in progress 🐑

1: This basket holds not one but two handspun Ranunculuses (Ranunculi?) waiting for their bath. After finishing a worsted weight version inspired me to cast on another in a lighter weight to wear spring/autumn. They deserve their own post once they are blocked 🥰 I am also combing my way through a 1kg bag of lambswool and creating these bouncy nests which are waiting to be spun.

2: A squiggle yarn swatch which I have been pondering upon. I think I have decided to knit this yarn into a wrapped vest after buying the pattern by .watras. The wool is handspun from ’s shed blend. Deliciously sheepy and rustic and I think it’ll be perfect for this pattern.

3: More shed blend that I’ve used as a test. I have a specific colour in mind that I want to knit a Pelica vest in. This is close, naturally dyed with weld and modified with iron but I want to swatch it and wash it a few times to see how it holds up before I commit to dyeing and knitting the final vest.

4: I always have socks on the go 😌 These are my Edinburgh memory socks. I try to buy sock yarn from the places I visit as a memento. This yarn is ’s Edin colourway. Inspired by the landscapes of Edinburgh and it will forever remind me of my recent visit. It’s a glorious city and I can’t wait to go back.

5: Forever washing fleece! This is a Romney x Shetland fleece from Fernhill. My third fleece that I’ve scoured at home in my tiny little flat. The quality of these fleece’s means much of the real gross work is done before it reaches me meaning I don’t need a ton of outdoor space to process it. There’s something so rewarding about taking a grubby fleece and processing right through to the finished product 💚 This is particular fleece is heading for the dyepots very soon 👀

So incredibly grateful to have been awarded a Woolly Weekend bursary from Fernhill Farm 🐑

I wouldn’t normally be able to attend something like this. With my neurodivergent child out of education full time, stepping away to learn and connect just isn’t always possible practically or financially. However the stars aligned and off I went!

This opportunity means so much — not just for me, but for the skills I get to bring back home and pour into my work.

Thank you for opening the door and giving me and others the chance to grow 💚

Yarrow. A sweater of firsts for me, first test knit, first dropped shoulder, first Estonian inlay knitting. I really enjoyed the process, learning new techniques stitch by stitch 🥰

It’s a rare thing that a sweater flies off the needles for me but this one did! I was keen to take it on adventures and it kept me cozy exploring mountains and waterfalls last month. It definitely holds happy memories ✨

The pattern is by and out today!

My longest standing WIP? Ummm finished it! 💪
I started this english paper pieced patchwork quilt top when my eldest daughter was five. She’s 24 tomorrow! 👀
Being a single mum at the time I couldn’t afford the backing material or batting. So I folded it up and put it in a box for ‘some day’ ✨ (it’s moved many times with us in that box!)
‘Some day’ has finally come! Now don’t look too close because quilting isn’t my thing. Finishing this project was humbling to say the least. Quilters across the world - I have a new found respect for you! The hand stitching was mindful and relaxing. The sewing machine? Yeah, we’ve had some choice words this week! 😂
But every stitch is made with love ❤️ and there is many many hand stitches in this 🥰 I hope she can feel the love whenever she sees it.

Featuring my Tolsta Tee (pattern by .creabea) that I finished months ago and still haven’t sewn in the ends. No one knows if you tuck them in! 🤫
All that handspun is destined for my loom and I can’t wait to see how it works up 🥰

Day 10: Local!

Not textile/fibre-related, but here’s a little peek at the magical place that inspires me 🌳 🌊 ☕️ Between the sirens in the sea and pixies in the forest, my creative cup is always full 🥰

Forever an introverted hobbit, I don’t connect enough, but I’m surrounded by incredible local creatives who spark so much inspiration too ✨ My hope for the coming months (and years) is to tiptoe a little further out of my cozy hobbit-hole and into the bustling local creative scene 🌱✨ It feels a bit out of my comfort zone, but sometimes we need to stretch those safe little spaces if we want to grow.

Psst. 👀 If you’re local check out and for creative inspo and events 💚

Predictably for me, I’ve missed a few days but my Top Tip for Day 9 of is…(and I’m passionate about this subject!)

Just get started and play.

It doesn’t have to be perfect (this *first ever* weaving definitely isn’t 😅). There are no “fibre art overlords” judging your work. The point is that you’re either:
🌿 learning and progressing your skills
🌿 having fun!
🌿 or expressing yourself in some way

Mixed-up emotions about the world? → channel them into art.
Busy life and need a release? → art.
Anxious? → art.
Happy? → art.

It doesn’t have to be “good.” The repetition, texture, playful colours and using your hands will feed your soul 🥰

Grab your tools, pick up that fibre (or fabric/thread/literally any other medium) and just begin 💚

For the longest time, I treated every bit of fibre like treasure. Too precious to touch, too special to risk “ruining.” It was like one of those beautiful new notebooks—you know the kind you don’t dare write in because your handwriting might “spoil” it? Yep, that was me with wool.

But here’s the thing: what’s the real waste? Fibre hiding away in plastic bags and boxes, never seeing the light of day, never being loved or played with. That’s the true lost potential.

Once that clicked, everything changed. Suddenly, there was no such thing as “ruined” fibre—because every bit is a lesson, a calming moment, or just pure play.

So today I pulled out some deliciously autumnal colours and gave myself permission to experiment. My hands usually default to a tidy fi*****ng weight, but my loom has been whispering for chunky textures, so I went for a “what happens if I…?” kind of spin.

And you know what? I had so much fun. 🍂✨
