We target businesses but anyone can switch. What is Switched? Climate change is a huge global issue with no single solution and we all need to transform our mindset to believe that we can make a change. ires to unite businesses to lead a change that promotes a more sustainable community. This will be achieved through a symbolic message of switching off non-essential lights every week at the same me for one hour. Any contribution will make a difference. One light...Two lights...Three lights... it’s the noticeable change in behaviour that will be the powerful message to the local community, students, and tourists. Picture the remarkable vision of looking down Market Street every Saturday between 12 and 1 o’clock and noticing that every business has Switched. Protecting our environment is a collective endeavour, a collective accountability and the time for change is now. Flick a switch and show your businesses support for a more sustainable St Andrews. How can I get involved? Getting involved in Switched and raising awareness for the need for change is easy. All you need to do is switch off as many lights in your business as you like from 12 to 1pm every Saturday. Reach out to the community and explain to them what you are doing by displaying your Switched sign, downloadable on this page. The more lights you turn off, the bigger the message. The University of St Andrews’ sustainability efforts have been given a boost in recent weeks thanks to the introduction of Switched. The student-run energy initiative, which launched 20 March, encourages local businesses to switch off non-essential lights for a single hour at mid-day every Saturday.

4 Days until Earth Hour 2017 - Local Businesses in St Andrews are being encouraged to power-down through the new Switched campaign. Thirteen shops signed up on the first day of asking to switch off lights, air curtains or other non-essential power during the working day.
