🔸Fashion Revolution Scotland at the Scottish Parliament 🔸
🔹From Tuesday 16th to Thursday 18th April, Fashion Revolution Scotland will be exhibiting at the Scottish Parliament building in Edinburgh to mark 10 years of fashion activism during Fashion Revolution Week. The exhibition will showcase sustainable solutions across Scotland’s 73 parliamentary constituencies, including community-based initiatives such as clothing repair workshops, small businesses creating slow and circular clothing, and eco-conscious fashion and textile students at universities and colleges across Scotland.
🔹The purpose of the event is to engage MSPs with issues that are relevant to their constituency, encouraging them to invest time and resources in supporting community groups to scale up accessible sustainable fashion initiatives and address social and environmental concerns related to local textile production, consumption, and disposal. As part of this, volunteers will be inviting MSPs and their staff to stitch a button onto a giant textile map of Scotland, teaching them essential sewing skills in the process.
🔹At a national level, Fashion Revolution Scotland is calling for the Scottish Government to implement a Minister for Textiles to address Scotland’s role in fashion’s negative impacts on people and the planet, and crucially, to promote and protect local textile production, and to support emerging sustainable fashion businesses. This campaign grew from the team’s previous Scottish Parliament event, ‘Re-Fashioning Scotland’s Textile Industries’ in April 2023, where participants explored opportunities for policy interventions at the Scottish Government level, sponsored by Monica Lennon MSP.
