There is more than one way to pleat a kilt, and each one will give it a totally different look.
Let's take a look at the obvious options for this tartan - Stewart Hunting Muted.
First slide shows the pattern of the tartan.
Second slide shows the most common option, which is pleated to the sett. This means the kilt is pleated matching the pattern of the tartan, so the kilt will look the same on the back (the pleated section) as it does on the front.
Third slide shows the tartan pleated to the red stripe, which means the back of the kilt will just show the red surrounded by the green.
Fourth slideshows the tartan pleated to the yellow stripe, which means the back of the kilt will just show the yellow surrounded by the green.
Fith slide shows the tartan pleated to the green centre line, which is in the blue block. This means that the back of the kilt will show as the green stripe surrounded by the blue.
Sixth slide shows the tartan pleated to the black.amd green centre line, which means the back will show the black and green stripes.
As you can see, each of these options makes the kilt look completely different, even though it is made from the same tartan.
There are other options you could choose, which are not as common, that would make the kilt more unique.
So, if you are thinking of getting a kilt made, this is an interesting way to help make your kilt more tailored to you.
