⚠️ Fundraising Challenge – March ⚠️
TL;DR: My dad has Motor Neurone Disease, and I’m walking or running 5km every single day in March to raise money for MND research and support.
After a long and exemplary career as an engineer in the MOD—much of it spent supporting the Silent Service—my dad was finally looking forward to enjoying more free time when he took partial retirement in April 2023.
Just one month later, he began losing strength in one hand. That weakness slowly spread through his arm, and in July 2024, he was given the devastating diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease.
For those unfamiliar, MND is an incurable, degenerative disease that gradually takes away muscle control, ultimately leading to paralysis. There is currently no cure.
At present, my dad has lost almost all use of his arms. While the progression appears stable for now, the reality of this disease is always there. He has had to fully retire as he is no longer able to work, he has had to sell his Harley Davidson and give up nearly all his hobbies as he is no longer able to enjoy them. With the exception of drink, fortunately with a straw he can still enjoy that!
Because of this, I’m setting myself a challenge: 5km every day throughout March, walking or running—rain or shine—to raise money for MND Association and to support those living with this cruel condition.
If you’re able to support in any way, I’d be incredibly grateful. Every donation helps fund research and provide vital support to families affected by MND.
