After over a decade, Discipline Skateboards is closing its doors. Don’t be sad, it’s been one hell of a ride and ‘Discipline’ leaves at a time when skateboarding is in a much better place than when it started.
Back in 2007 the landscape was much different; pros were calling out skate shops for selling blanks, and US companies were hiking up board prices. I was disappointed with what was happening and decided to try and do something about it. I wanted to start a skateboard company (a skateBOARD company) and sell boards at a fair price. I got some designs together and printed the first set of boards. Then the ‘I’ became ‘we’ as without a team, you’re just a dude trying to flog some wood.
Over the next decade there was a jail sentence, road trips, friendships, babies, weddings, divorces, websites, tents, screen printing, skate comps, offensive graphics, t-shirts, beanies, injuries, team changes, stickers and nearly a thousand boards. It’s been one hell of a ride, but everything comes to an end. Over the last 18 months I’ve been unable to put the 100% in that something like ‘Discipline’ needs. This is partly due to getting injured but also my own focus has shifted.
For a decade I’ve been taking photos and shooting video to promote ‘Discipline’ and its riders. It’s just time to focus on my own endeavours.
I’d like to thank all the shops that supported ‘Discipline Skateboards’ and all the team riders who repped our brand; Alfie Brown, Yaz, Scott Partington , James Tembo, Josh Ward-Brickett, Simon Oliver, Chris Young, and Knick Rayner (seems like you were an unofficial member hahah). And most of all I'd like to thank everyone who rode our boards, t-shirts, and proudly displayed our stickers! We supported the scene and you supported us.
Thank you for ten rad years... Mat Lloyd
PS. I’m sure someone will ask ‘What about the video?’, one day I’ll finish it but when that will be…that’s another question?
