Seeing tiny feet in our creations is probably the best part of selling knitwear for children.
asks us to consider the seasonal element to our work and December was busy for us last year with a Makers Market and some bespoke knitting jobs for Christmas gifts. While we do plan and create special items for Christmas there really seems to be a mix of what people purchase and that’s great as it means we can make a variety of knitted items! It has taken many attempts to find the right words to post about bringing babies home wrapped up in a snugly cardigan to a safe place, when those in Ukraine are facing unimaginable scenes with new babies.
I shall keep posting and try to be sensitive to the world we find ourselves in.
One of the prompts for is
I have donated all of my children’s old clothes to others, family, friends and charity and kept virtually nothing, except for all the hand knits. They hold such memories for me and I have romantic ideas that they may be passed down a generation. My son Gabriel is pictured here coming home from hospital in a cardigan knitted by my mum specially for him and wrapped in a blanket knitted over 35 years ago for my brother. These collared cardigans are my favourite.
All any parent wants to do is wrap their children in love and bring them in to a loving safe place.

3 Things About our Berets for Women
- Each one is unique using either different wool or a different knitting technique.
- You can ask us for a bespoke beret in a colour of your choosing.
- They are a surprise best seller, I was hesitant about people wanting a beret but most of our beret customers, particularly those who buy via come back for another and put a bespoke order in.

I think that this one pictured is my personal favourite item that my Mum has ever knitted. The colours are perfection and the mohair wool is incredibly soft. If I were a beret this is how I would look! This particular hat found it’s way to a customer but I am always wishing for another similar one to appear in the knitting pile!

Here we are ready for introducing ourselves. We are Jane and Laura, a mother and daughter team on the Kent coast, knitting and selling baby clothes and gifts as well as hats for grown ups. Beach Hut Belles gives us both a creative outlet and an opportunity to do something together that is aside from the normal family stuff. Over the next few weeks we hope to give you a bit more of an insight in to what our very small business is all about and to be inspired my other makers taking part in challenge.
