I was taught to knit many years ago, like most of us, by my mum and my gran and I started off with a teddy bears scarf. I knitted a lot in my twenties, using cables, intarsia and various picture designs which were the vogue in the seventies. My knitting needles came back out of the drawer about five years ago and will stay out! I discovered Ravelry, a magical website for all those of us who knit a
nd crochet. There I found Jane Thornley, a Canadian designer, and I was intrigued by her 'free range' knitting - using different yarns and stitches in one pattern to create unique designs. I like to mix and match yarns - silk, merino, mohair, alpaca and even some novelty yarns to create designs which are more like paintings that knitting.
