This year is one of several secret projects and its extremely difficult not to share any of them with you as yet, but I'll finally be revealing one of them very soon. But can you guess what this secret project I'm working on is?

Let me give you a few hints...

Its going to be a wonderfully luxurious festive treat.
I'll be designing some gorgeous new colourwork patterns inspired by my vintage archive.
There will be beautiful yarn, hand-dyed by Charlie at our Lake District studio.
It includes a fun new publication.
This is something I've never done before.
Quantities will be strictly limited.

So yesterday was my birthday, and as is my habit, I avoided talking too much about it, particularly as I’ve reached an age where I prefer not to think too much about it and for so many years now I’ve also not been at peace with who I’ve become as a result of illness and multiple surgeries.

However a couple of months ago Charlie took this lovely photo of me as part of a photoshoot for the little neckerchief I’m wearing, and looking at at it, I can see someone actually reasonably comfortable in her own skin. Surgeries, touch wood, are for the foreseeable future, over, and I feel more like myself than I have for ten years, and yes, I definitely look those ten years older, but I think I’d be happy to see this picture on the back of a book telling people this is me. I’m now in my 6th decade, and I shouldn’t hide away as a result of that and social media algorithms are just going to have to put up with it!

Can’t say how long this post will stay up for as I’m already bricking it about going public about age, but I’ve gone public about everything else that’s happened to me so I’ll try and be brave!

Cumulus neckerchief pattern launching Monday 15th June

I forgot to mention that Baillie- an absolutely stunning shawl, scarf, neckerchief pattern is now available to purchase from my website. Baillie was designed for me by the incredibly talented who is one of the most gifted lace knitters I’ve ever met.

The Baillie pattern includes 4 sizes from a dainty neckerchief seen here in the photos in a rusty red colour called Burnt Sienna, to a small scarf, a medium sized shawl and a glorious, larger, wedding size shawl shown here in natural undyed shade of Bianca.

Baillie is knitted in a intricate Lily of the Valley lace pattern with a dainty pointed border. Whilst not for a beginner lace knitter, the neckerchief size is a great knit for anyone wanting to try out a more complex lace pattern without the worry of knitting a large piece. The pattern also includes both written and charted instructions so you can choose to work from which ever style you prefer.

The pattern is available either as a single pattern download or as part of a kit using our gorgeous Melissa yarn, a 1 ply laceweight yarn, spun from the softest blend of alpaca, silk and cashmere. It is so incredibly light, soft and luxurious to wear. We have nine stunning shades to choose from all of which you can see on the kit page on my website.

The first two sizes take only a single 50g skein and the two largest sizes - including this amazing wedding shawl, use only 100g of this beautiful yarn, making it an incredibly economical project too.

It’s been an incredibly busy week since I last posted with two big creative and currently top secret projects on the go, but there’s still lots to share:

Baillie neckerchief pattern and yarn kits coming this week.

Knitting in the sunshine earlier today - Garnett on the needles using Fenella in Pretty in Pink paired with a delicately variegated mohair silk hand dyed by Charlie of course.

The Bluebell Wood scarflette, a very special little project I designed for my recent knitting retreat.

The Parallel Lines socks were inspired by the energy and individuality of Blondie’s iconic album Parallel Lines, the soundtrack to so many youthful moments dancing around the bedroom with a hairbrush microphone in hand!

The bold lines travel elegantly down the leg and foot, creating a striking effect whilst also cleverly ensuring a wonderful fit. Worked from the cuff down and paired with our beautifully hard-wearing Lock Sock yarn, this is a pattern you'll return to time and time again.

Each skein of Lock yarn carries its own story too; grown, sheared, spun and hand-dyed entirely in the North of England using fleece from rare breed Lonk sheep, which historically was commonly used in creating socks and hosiery thanks to its perfect balance of incredible depth, strength and softness.

There’s something so satisfying about a sock pattern that feels both clever and comforting to knit, and the Parallel Lines socks are exactly that. Parallel Lines is now available as a standalone PDF pattern (both on my website and on Ravelry) and as a kit, with my lovely British wool sock yarn, Lock.

This design takes its name from the seminal album, Parallel Lines by Blondie. I'll never forget the first time I saw Debbie Harry - her energy and talent are (ironically) absolutely unparalleled!

You might look at these socks and worry that there's a lot of purling involved – but that's the clever thing! Key sections are designed to be knitted inside-out, making the whole process of knitting them an absolute joy.

Even better, the rib sections help the sock to fit you perfectly, making them some of the comfiest socks you'll ever wear.
