Edge student member, .macrae.art is currently showing this thought provoking work, âEverybody Lives Downstreamâ at The Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Parkâs exhibition, on now until November. The starting point for this project was a charity shop shirt. The piece explores how growing and manufacturing cotton damages plant diversity and human health. Dickens described our northern cotton towns as having stinking black canals and rivers running purple with evil smelling dye. Nowadays, the waterways filling up with polluted water are found in countries like India and China. As the botanist Robin Wall Kimmerer says, âWhat I do here, matters. Everybody lives downstream.â We can make other choices..
