We love our now website design. Julia listened to all of our thoughts around what we wanted and created a great new site. 😊🙏

I have a particular love for Textile Art, so thoroughly enjoyed designing a new website for EDGE Textile Artists Scotland.

Edge student member, .macrae.art is currently showing this thought provoking work, ‘Everybody Lives Downstream’ at The Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park’s exhibition, on now until November. The starting point for this project was a charity shop shirt. The piece explores how growing and manufacturing cotton damages plant diversity and human health. Dickens described our northern cotton towns as having stinking black canals and rivers running purple with evil smelling dye. Nowadays, the waterways filling up with polluted water are found in countries like India and China. As the botanist Robin Wall Kimmerer says, “What I do here, matters. Everybody lives downstream.” We can make other choices..

Discarded, tailor made cotton shirt, low impact dyes, hand and machine embroidery. The Hutts, Hutts Lane, Grewelthorpe, Ripon, HG4 3DA

Our member Kim McCormack conducts different textiles based workshops around the country. She feels "It is a great experience to watch a group of like-minded creatives working together and generating a creative energy. I like to take care to provide only the springboard, allowing people to find their own voice in the work."
She recently went to the stunning Newcastle University Hatton Gallery where the NCU Fine Art students are based. Kim was impressed to see students with a particular interest in textiles had formed a forum .
"I was truly blown away by their ability to really push the capabilities of a material or technique and to look at it from differing angles. To freely experiment with contrasting media and push boundaries. I loved working with this group and I see stars of the future."
