The Story behind the Akis and mini-Akis Design
•
The starting point of Akis is a story in Mevlana's Mesnevi on the subject of "reflection". This story, which I came across just in time, clarified my perception on reflection. Namely, there are two foci in reflection, reflected and reflective. As a result of the reflection, the harmony of these two focuses creates the actual reflection, which is more beautiful than its constituents.
•
In this story, Mevlâna mentions that a Sultan who is famous with his justice, gave them a room with a curtain which separates them, to evaluate the Chinese and Anatolian artists who were quite assertive about their arts.
•
According to the story, both sides are pretty ambitious; Chinese artisans started to make the most beautiful work, decorations and embroideries they could make with the most beautiful paints. On the other hand, Anatolian artisans polished the whole room so that there was no spot left; which means, they decided to use the power of reflection in this race. On the day of the decision, the Sultan, who loved the works of Chinese artists, went to the room of the Anatolian artisans and encountered a clean, clear and empty room. The sultan, who could not understand, and he was a little angry. However, he was almost fascinated when the Anatolian artists' lowered the curtain. Because all the works of Chinese artists were reflected in this room, but with the reflection, it took on an even more lively atmosphere. Both the reflected and the reflective was looking more beautiful.
•
As Mevlana states, Anatolian artists were influenced by Sufis while creating these works. Because they were arranging and cleaning their inner world to reflect what Allah brought, in the cleanest and most vivid form. I wanted to choose the sources that reflected and reflective in my product with this care.
