What makes for a ‘good’ picture anyway…

While researching for this year’s new collection, I stumbled across an old file I had on one of my favourite photographers, Sarah Moon, a French photographer famed for her use of simple polaroid pack film camera and Polaroid type 665 film and Type 55 film. With super long exposures and overlays, giving the work a timeless aesthetic, reminiscent of the images captured by the early daguerreotype cameras over 100 years before.

What is a Bycocket?

The Bycocket, is a medieval hat with a wide brim and a pointed front, worn from the 13th to 16th centuries. Often worn by pilgrims and travellers for protection from the elements.
Popularised by the by representations of Robin Hood.

The cloth cap, is a flat cap made of wool or tweed, worn in the early 20th century. The cloth cap was a common working-class hat in Britain, and was often worn by miners and factory workers. Popularised by the legendary Birmingham gang called the Peaky Blinders, for sewing razor blades into the peak of their cloth caps.

Part of ISK’s mission is to revisit historical cloth typologies.
Pieces commonly worn through history, now abandoned.

Don’t take my word for it:

“Working with Ian was a transformative experience that ultimately led to my acceptance into Central Saint Martins (MA)
Ian’s direct and honest approach, coupled with his humour, made our sessions both productive and enjoyable. He challenged me to stay true to my design values, helping me curate work that reflected my unique perspective. He was dedicated to understanding my design background and my goals, tailoring his advice to ensure it was truly relevant and provided the most beneficial support. “

Moon phases are a marker of cycles, they offer pause and action. A New Moon Is a time of completion, fertility, abundance, and transformation. A time to close off cycles, of harmony and balance, heightened emotional energy, friction, and polarity, new beginnings. A time to harvest celebrate achievements.
