My new summer hat! I’ve made this hat using a vintage straw I’ve had in my stash for ages. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with the base, but went back and forth with the trim. I considered going for something quite flamboyant but I want this to be a hat for everyday so I kept it fairly simple in the end, layering up a narrow white Petersham ribbon over a wider tan ribbon, topped with some vintage haberdashery, possibly dating back to the 1950’s, so there definitely won’t be another hat like it!

Cheltenham ladies’ day is less than 5 weeks away! I have a good selection of race-ready hats which I’ll be posting over the next few days. For today, here is a gorgeous vintage-style cloche. It manages to be both stylish and practical, in a British-made wool herringbone tweed crown and a fleece lining, with a bit of plush velvet too, on the upturned brim. I wore this yesterday on the school run and it kept me really cosy, so it would be perfect for a winter race meet.
I have very limited availability for bespoke orders in time for Cheltenham so do get in touch if you are looking for your perfect hat or headpiece.
