Jess made a beautiful pair of plain black derby shoes with a fishtail inked waist over 12 days, one day a week. Now she’s got the bug and will be making her dad a pair of chukka boots next.

We already miss that lovely smiling energy ☀️.

Vintage 2-in-1 leather skiver and cutter from the 1900s. British made by Mill-Ward of Mansfield, Notts. (Works like a dream - see stories). Bench mounted with fir screw holes to secure it.

Measures approx. 20cm x 10cm base x 30 cm high.

New in the Toolshed - Japanese ramie thread.

Ramie is a natural fibre from a member of the nettle family.

It is prized by shoemakers for its strength and smooth finish. Stitch soles like a pro!

We import it directly from a Japanese manufacturer to keep the price as low as possible

Worth the wait… simple black toecap Oxfords with buff laces, minimalist and modern.

Oscar Young determinedly squeezed their making and finishing in around foundation studies, architecture school and first year projects….with a bit of climbing and cycling thrown in too 🤣

Mercy got her heel lifts cut out ready for a day of heel building in a few weeks.

A sharp knife and some serious grit and determination made light work of Baker’s Tannery Colyton leather as chat turned to machines, press knives, clog soles and wooden heels 🤭

Great to have Matthew Gill in the workshop topping up his shoemaking skills as part of his Craft of Shoemaking Award. Can’t beat face to face learning with tweaks to techniques, different approaches and on-the-spot problem solving.

We don’t do bags.

Cherelle finished this beautiful, custom designed duffle bag yesterday. It’s got pockets for her wool and needles: knitting is a craft she’s discovered as a mindful, happy place.

The bag is made from leather recycled from a favourite family chair, a familiar reminder she can carry with her.

Some requests are too special to say no to.
