The beds of surrealist artist Salvador Dalí in his Catalonian home.

Located in a fishing village, Port Lligat, overlooking the mediterranean, it is thought that Dalí’s wife and muse, Gala, was the main interior decorator of their home. Many of the pieces that furnish it are second-hand, and thought to be sourced from dealers in the Spanish towns of La Bisbal d’Empordà and Olot.

Dalí had an affinity for the small town, it was his preferred place to work and where he eventually died in 1989. He described it as ‘a unique planetary case’, one of ‘geographical peacefulness’.

There is no greater feeling than the summer siesta.

One can only describe the sensation of curling up in a hammock, daybed or seaside as complete bliss.

A morning spent in the ocean, an indulgent lunch and then a stroll around local boutiques only calls for a quick nap before the evenings schedule of aperitifs and card games by sunset.

Rinsing off the salt is always optional.

In her Beirut studio named ‘sobhiyé’ we chatted about her Sunday traditions of cooking with the family, childhood Sundays spent at her grandmother’s house overlooking the sea and her favourite breakfast of za’atar and halloumi with fresh grapefruit juice.

One of the greatest things you can do for your happiness (according to The Happiness Lab podcast) is experience awe. To encounter something so beautiful, vast, extraordinary or deeply moving that it momentarily quiets you.

Last Monday, I was invited to visit Hope Lodge WildLand with three carloads of creative Londoners. More than once, our noisy gang was silenced by awe. The landscape, the carefully renovated lodge, the bagpipes at sunset with Scottish oysters, the 200-year conservation vision, the Woodlands team’s passion, the changing colours of the mountains, the food, the light, the cold plunge, and the never-ending conversation.

Many places talk about community and connection, and a greater vision, but truly this spot is so embodied with soul and purpose that it leaks from every beautiful crevice of the lodge.

A great pleasure to wake up in. An even greater pleasure to do it with so many interesting and curious people.

At the beginning of the year I came across a post by Fatema Raja

In one of our weekly ‘all hands’ team meetings, I asked everyone to write their answers to the exercise and I was relieved that we were all dancing to the same tune, but with some different lyrics.

I circled the moniker “And on the Seventh day there was Rest” and defended the Vegemite decision (80% of my job) and then invited Tilly (the gen z amongst us) to write the hymn sheet.
