The Sybarite is a 17 inch resin artist-doll created by London artists Desmond Lingard and Charles Fegen in 2005.[1][2] Sybarite dolls are fully articulated mannequin-like dolls and have appeared in several fashion trades (French Revue des Modes, Style.com, Women's Wear Daily). HauteDoll features Sybarites on the Covers of their magazines. [3][4][5]
The designers work under the "Superdoll" moniker

and produce the dolls for a collector market. Previous to artist dolls, Fegen worked in the fashion industry as a clothing designer. Early dolls were handmade in London by Lingard and Fegen in their workshop. As the dolls went into the mainstream market, manufacturing moved to China. The dolls have 17 points of articulation, and have strung bodies similar to the Super Dollfie dolls from Japan. The Sybarite doll was introduced shortly after Asian ball-jointed dolls were gaining popularity, but differ in that they are high fashion mannequins versus the Asian ball-jointed dolls' anime inspired childlike quality. In 2007, a Sybarite doll appeared in the audience at a Dior Couture fashion show. Lingard and Fegen are known for their lavish publicity stunts. The dolls were also exhibited at Jeffrey New York in an "all white collection", including a "razor blade dress", suggesting a very controversial cocaine theme. In March 2008, the BBC aired a segment on Fegen and Lingard claiming the duo's handmade creations are treated with "the reverence normally reserved for catwalk fashion". BBC's David Harper accompanied Fegen and Lingard to Paris where the 2008 Collection, entitled "War+Peace", was shown at a private 16th century residence. Fegen explained some of the ideas behind his collections such as red and white polka dot shoes representing "magic mushrooms for breakfast", and showed costumes featuring tiny bullets which were actually miniature lipsticks. At the end of the BBC segment, David Harper stated that one of a kind handmade studio Sybarites have been purchased for up to $20,000 to $40,000 USD. Collectors were interviewed but would not discuss pricing with the BBC. At the Paris showing, the purchase of a two doll set required a signed contract stipulating owners could not discuss pricing or sell their dolls for 3 years.

Something old, someone new, and everything as fabulous as can be.
OOAK Moor™️ models a true one-of-a-kind archive prototype in this striking study in red — a rare survivor from the Superdoll archives, preserved exactly as it was during development.
Meanwhile, DC will hardly sleep a wink tonight as she wonders what her daddies might conjure up to complete her look.
But while she waits, here’s a question for the serious Sybarites historians among you:
Can you name the the doll and collection who ultimately acquired the production version of the legendary Samurai gilet shown here, paired with its iconic red hose and heels?
No prizes. Just eternal bragging rights.

Ruby™️ slips into an original old-school sample; henna mohair wig credited to Kao An, paired with a proto gown drawn from the depths of her personal archive. Her smouldering eyes of turquoise and sapphire beneath disco lids and deep midnight shadow meet lips lacquered in the darkest, most absolute brick.

Side-parted hair adorned with symmetrical bias-cut silk “dolly” bows says everything of her mood, her posture, and the peculiar romance of her Froebelian gown.

This ultra-sleek satin silhouette bursts outward like a bouquet of geometry, delivering pure kindergarten glamour. Two colours of silk paper taffeta push and pull against one another — not peplum, shawl, and gown as separate gestures, but a single composition moving in deliberate unison.

Some say disco. Some say the 1980s. She says historical value.

And there she remains, suspended before the mirror, fully committed to her 1880s mood.

Of SYB/DD_010’s Memory

From within our fathom of PROTOTYPES and Salon Samples, we are delighted to present this most auspicious gown.

Collectors may recognise within its line and construction the earliest murmurs of what would later evolve into the issued edition titled Epocolypse™️. Originally conceived for PFDF, this rare prototype followed another path before, through whim and availability, transforming into the now-familiar two-part Epocolypse ensemble known to collectors today.

An important early exploration from the formative years of The Sybarites — offered now to the discerning collector, archivist, and custodian of our history.

A keyhole-armhole, bias-cut, side-zipper swirling gown executed in wet-look lamé and embroidered velvet; unmistakably of its era, yet already carrying the dramatic signatures that would come to define the period.

We are honoured to release selected works from our archive in the spirit of preservation, scholarship, and a deeper understanding of where these ideas first began.

GOWN ONLY

Hose and shoes of our choosing will accompany the piece.

Tagged PROTOTYPE. ONE OF A KIND.

From our London Atelier in KingsX

DC slips into an original old-school hand-stitched head skin, paired with a proto gown drawn from the depths of her personal archive.
Eyes of ice and sky beneath white lids and deep midnight shadow meet lips lacquered in the blackest, most absolute pitch. A single white beauty spot punctuates the darkness.
The rebellion of a simple side pony tied with an even simpler bow — set against the scale of a truly mammoth evening gown — needs no explanation.
