Vertiginous views are a hallmark of the Ribeira Sacra, a collection of small towns that mostly hug the Sil and Miño rivers in Galicia, Spain's north-westernmost region. Galicia is often referred to as "green Spain" for its verdant landscapes, the product of frequent rainfall compared to elsewhere in Spain, but it's these two rivers that have shaped the Ribeira Sacra, the region’s most inland corner. The name means "sacred riverbank" in the Galician language, a nod to both the topography and the area's long monasterial history, dating to Roman times.

Lewis Hamilton has had to wait for it, but he finally had his moment of redemption at the British Grand Prix and returned to the top step of a Formula 1 podium - two years, seven months and two days since he last stood there.

In doing so, he broke the record for wins at a single track, and did it in front of his home crowd and his family.

“I can’t stop crying,” he said straight after climbing out of his car. Later, he said: “That might be the most emotional ending to a race I think I have probably ever had.”

One of Australia's most celebrated swimmers has announced her retirement from the sport after failing to qualify for this year's Olympics in Paris.
Cate Campbell announced that it was “time to officially say goodbye to the dream I have had since I was 9 years old,” in a social media post on Wednesday, a week after bowing out of the Australian Olympic Trials in Brisbane.
Campbell missed out on what would have been her fifth Games team when she fell short of qualification for the 100m and 50m freestyle events.

Starring Austin Butler and Tom Hardy, the latest film about the leather-jacketed rebels is inspired by the story of a real-life biker gang – and is a reminder of their dangerous appeal.

The revving vibration of a chrome engine, the acidic smell of tarmac and motor oil, wind in the hair and two wheels on the road: few vehicles are as writ large on the subconscious of the cinema-going public as the motorcycle. Jeff Nichols' new film The Bike Riders is loosely based on the early years of real-life biker gang the Chicago Outlaws, who are fictionalised onscreen as the Vandals, and mythologises them and their journey from innocence to experience in the advancing years of the 1960s. Revealing an arch awareness of the films of bikers past, Nichols borrows from a rich lexicon of cultural fascination with the mirage of the leather-jacketed rebel.

Manchester United's Tom Heaton will join England's Euro 2024 squad as a training goalkeeper.

The 38-year-old will head out to Germany to support the trio of Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale and Dean Henderson for the duration of the tournament.

Heaton has won three caps for the Three Lions and was a member of the squads at Euro 2016 and the 2019 Nations League Finals.

Gucci normally shows collections as part of Milan Fashion Week, but it often chooses other locations around the world for its cruise collections - those inbetween the main spring and autumn fashion weeks.

Millions of people across the globe are gathering to mark Earth Day and celebrate the environmental movement.

The event began in 1970 in the United States, and is now marked around the world.

What is Earth Day and when is it?
Earth Day is a global event which aims to highlight the importance of protecting the environment.

It takes place every year on 22 April.

It was set up in 1970 by Ga***rd Nelson, a US senator and environmentalist, and Denis Hayes, a graduate student at Harvard University.

Both had growing concerns about environmental damage in the US, such as that caused by a large oil spill in 1969 in Santa Barbara, California.

They came up with Earth Day as a way to engage the public and push green issues to the national agenda.

The traditional "shout auction" at Peterhead fish market could become a thing of the past.

The Aberdeenshire town - the UK's largest fishing port - still uses the old method of buyers calling out their bids for boxes of fish.

But Peterhead Port Authority is now consulting on the possible introduction of an electronic auction system.

This could allow buyers to purchase fish without them actually being physically present.

The port authority said an electronic auction - which is commonplace in many other markets - could "maximise supply and improve demand".

Launching the consultation, chief executive officer Graeme Reid said the organisation had to continually review operations.

Unions representing senior doctors in England have given their backing to a improved pay offer in England.

But it will now be put to consultant members of the British Medical Association and smaller Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association to see if they are willing to accept.

The deal put forward includes an extra £3,000 for those a few years into their consultant careers.

Consultants have staged four strikes in their pay dispute so far.

The BMA said the new deal includes an extra 2.85% - worth £3,000 - for those between four and seven years into their consultant careers, on top of the 6% all consultants got in April.

The previous offer, which was rejected by a narrow margin, meant those at this stage got no additional uplift, while other consultants were getting up to an extra 12.8%.

On top of this, consultants will be eligible for a pay rise for the 2024-25 financial year starting next month.

The House of Lords is being urged to throw out plans for non-doctor associate roles to be licensed by the same body as doctors.

Under a planned new law, physician associates (PAs) will be regulated by the General Medical Council (GMC).

The British Medical Association (BMA) believes this could lead to patients confusing the different roles, which it says could have "tragic consequences".

The Department of Health and Social Care has been approached for comment.

There are about 3,200 PAs working in GP surgeries and hospitals in England, with 10,000 more planned in the next decade or so.

They were introduced to help doctors with their work - examining and diagnosing patients and discussing treatments with them - although PAs are currently unregulated.

Unlike doctors, they do not have to hold a medical degree, but they usually have a degree in a life science and have to undertake a two-year training course.

A ban on vehicle access to a new community leisure centre through roads on the Noble's Hospital estate is down to the "safety of service users", the health department has said.

It has given Braddan Commissioners 28 days notice, after which access will be restricted to the newly-built Roundhouse facility.

The local authority said a previous commitment from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) in 2016 contradicted that action.

A DHSC spokeswoman said the "smooth operation of the hospital" was the department's "primary concern".

She said while "planning permission was originally granted, which included access to the site via the existing private roads, several years have passed".

In 2022 it was "flagged by the department that access via that route would no longer be suitable due to the increased traffic", she said.
