20 years. Wow! That’s a big number.
I wanted to pause and write a few words — mostly for myself. To reflect. To mark this moment.
When I arrived in London 22 years ago, I was emotionally battered… out of a divorce and in the middle of a career change. But I was so hungry… The possibilities felt endless, the world wide open, the opportunities everywhere...
I embraced my new life with passion. I wanted to devour it all.
London offered me what I needed. And having Dan (then boyfriend, now husband) beside me gave me the space to flourish, to grow, to become who I wanted to be.
It hasn’t always been easy. There were so many moments I came close to walking away. But somehow, I didn’t. That’s partly my own determination and passion — but it’s also the people who held me up. My family. My friends. My community. And the strangers who took a moment to write and tell me that a pair of shoes made them happy. Those emails and messages gave me purpose when I needed it most.
My story isn’t unique. I am surrounded by strong women who refuse to quit, who believe in making small changes in the world — however small those changes might be. Together we are much stronger.
Esska is where it is today, 20 years on, because of YOU, and without a doubt, for YOU.
