Serbia have threatened to pull out of Euro 2024 over chanting between fans at the match between Croatia and Albania on Wednesday.

Fans could be heard chanting during the 2-2 Group B draw about the killing of Serbians.

The general secretary of the Football Association of Serbia, Jovan Surbatovic, has called for the strongest sanction to be taken.

He told the Serbian state-owned broadcaster RTS: "What happened is scandalous and we will ask [European governing body] Uefa for sanctions, even if it means not continuing the competition."

When Wales’ journey at the 2022 World Cup was ended by defeat by England in Qatar, manager Rob Page and his players walked over to their supporters and shared a moment of mutual appreciation; disappointed their adventure was over, but proud to have been on football’s grandest stage for the first time in 64 years.

Page and his squad took the same walk to the equivalent spot of a stadium in Slovakia on Sunday night – but the contrast in reception could hardly have been starker.

Max Verstappen leads the drivers’ championship by 48 points following his Imola victory, but it’s not Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez who sits in the runners-up spot now – it’s Charles Leclerc.

Perez drops down to third after finishing eighth last weekend and with Lando Norris’ claiming another podium spot, the Mexican is only six points clear of the Briton, who sits in fourth.

More than 13,000 people visited an exhibition featuring a giant illuminated model of the Earth on display in a Manx church.

The Gaia artwork, which is 20ft (6m) in diameter, was on show in the nave at St Thomas' Church in Douglas for three weeks.

During its stay, choirs performed underneath the display and some classes of the Manx Music Festival were held in the space.

Aly Lewin from Net Zero Isle of Man said it had been "a great success story and community event".

Plans for meat vending machines have been given the green light by councillors.

Abbatoir Cig Oen Caron sought permission from the Ceredigion local authority to put two of them at Tregaron cattle market.

It said they would be stocked daily to suit the demand of customers.

The application said: "The aim is to create a dedicated space to sell their produce to the local community which originates from the local area."

The application was conditionally approved by planners.

The Scottish government has confirmed it will scrap its annual and interim targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

They will be replaced with a system measuring emissions every five years.

Ministers have announced a raft of measures to cut planet-warming gases including a national integrated ticketing system for public transport.

New legislation will be introduced similar to the carbon budgets used by the UK and Welsh governments.

The Scottish government insists the long-term target to reach net zero by 2045 "steadfastly" remains.

A cheese retailer has announced it will be closing its original store, 35 years after it was opened.

Mousetrap Cheese said its branch in Leominster, Herefordshire, would be shutting its doors for the last time on 5 April.

In a post on Facebook, the owners Claire and Matt Knowles blamed the decision on the rising costs and the reduced footfall in the town.

They confirmed that the branches in Hereford and Ludlow, Shropshire, would remain open.

The social media statement, external said: “Leominster was the first of the Mousetrap Cheese shops opened over 35 years ago.

“While it was always the quietest of the three shops, we were able to manage that and make it worth staying open.”

They said the business was still thriving online and that the other two branches were “well used and safe".

But they added: “Our electricity bills quadrupling within a year as well as very many other increases in cost is just too much for us to continue running in Leominster.”

The owners thanked customers for their support and the staff who have worked at the branch over the years.

The UK needs to build new, gas-fired power stations to ensure the country's energy security, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said on Tuesday.

The new stations would replace existing plants, many of which are aging and will soon be retired.

But the government says the plans do not include measures for climate change-limiting carbon capture.

That could threaten a legally binding commitment to cut carbon emissions to net zero by 2050, critics say.

Mr Sunak, writing in the Daily Telegraph, said new gas power stations were needed to have a reliable and affordable back-up for days when renewables like wind and solar did not deliver.

"It is the insurance policy Britain needs to protect our energy security, while we deliver our net zero transition," the prime minister wrote.

The government did not give any details about when or where the new power stations would be built.

The decision, which Energy Security Secretary Claire Coutinho outlined in a speech at Chatham House in London, is part of a wide-reaching review of how the UK's energy market works.

But the Green Alliance think tank said it "flies in the face" of the government's promise to reach zero-carbon electricity by 2035.

The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit said falling North Sea output would leave the UK ever more dependent on foreign gas.

Labour accused the Tories of leaving the UK facing another 10 years of high energy bills, but acknowledged retiring gas-fired stations needed to be replaced.

Shadow energy secretary Ed Miliband said: "The reason the Tories cannot deliver the lower bills and energy security we need is that they are specialists in failure when it comes to our clean energy future."

He accused the Conservatives of "persisting with the ludicrous ban on onshore wind, bungling the offshore wind auctions, and failing on energy efficiency".

Liberal Democrat energy and climate change spokesperson Wera Hobhouse said that announcement was "another step backwards on the critical road to net zero".

"We need to wean ourselves off this reliance on expensive fossil fuels by investing in cheap, clean renewable power and insulating every home," she said.

John Lewis and the Co-op are both raising minimum pay levels for workers as retailers try to retain staff and react to the rising living wage.

John Lewis and Waitrose - both part of the same group - will lift pay for store workers to £11.55 an hour from April, and to £12.89 in London.

This is above the compulsory National Living Wage, which will increase to £11.44 per hour next month.

The Co-op will increase pay for 37,000 store workers by 10.1% to £12 an hour.

In London, the rate will go up to £13.15 an hour.

The Co-op is owned by its members and runs Britain's seventh biggest grocery chain.

It said the move was its "biggest ever investment into pay", with an increase of more than 20% in the past two years for workers.

The John Lewis Partnership is also owned by its members and has 80,000 partners. It claims to be the largest employee-owned business in the UK.

The National Living Wage will include 21 and 22-year-olds for the first time when it increases in April. The minimum wage will also go up, and still apply to those of school leaving age and up.

Due to the rise, big supermarkets and retailers have been announcing pay deals over the past few weeks.

Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Aldi, Lidl and M&S have all said they will increase pay.

The number of landlords who have fallen behind on their mortgages has jumped, according to figures from the banking industry.

Buy-to-let mortgages in arrears more than doubled in the final three months of 2023 compared to the same period the year before.

The 124% rise was likely to be the result of high mortgage rates.

However, it still only accounts for a fraction of mortgages that are still being paid off.

UK Finance said there were 13,570 buy-to-let mortgages in arrears in the final quarter of last year. There are nearly two million mortgages being repaid by landlords in total.

These arrears - which are mostly of relatively low value - rose by 18% compared with the previous three months. But compared to the year before, the increase was more pronounced.

Graham Cox, a broker at the Self Employed Mortgage Hub, told Newspage: "The surge in interest rates has led to either unaffordable refinancing costs or more void periods due to higher rents.

"The situation is particularly bad in London for landlords and tenants alike."

Moves to repossess homes from landlords was at the highest level since the pandemic, UK Finance said.

Meera Chindooroy, from the National Residential Landlords Association, said more than eight in 10 of buy-to-let mortgages were on interest-only repayment terms, leaving them harder hit by rising mortgage rates.

"Faced with such challenges, many landlords are simply opting to leave the market altogether, exacerbating an already serious shortage of homes to rent," she said.

Foreign nationals could have to live in the UK for 10 years before qualifying for social housing in England, under government plans.

Ministers are considering introducing the requirement alongside a need for all applicants to show a two-year connection to the local area.

They have also announced new powers to ban people from social homes for up to five years for anti-social behaviour.

Those without the right to live in the UK are generally ineligible already.

Labour's housing secretary Angela Rayner called the announcement "absolute rubbish," as some people already on waiting lists were waiting more than a decade to access social housing.

Ministers were "gaslighting people who can't get homes," she told ITV, adding "they can't give British homes for British people".

Housing Minister Lee Rowley said the rules would ensure "decent and hardworking people that have contributed to this country" would get priority for social housing.

He added it would also mean "local law-abiding citizens in need have more access to a home," adding that social housing was "finite".

A consultation on the plans will run until 26 March, with changes then delivered "at the earliest opportunity" by amending housing laws.
