The wait is over!! It’s taken a while, but I am very excited to announce the launch of my Car Seat Safety Workshop!

These will take place in London SE25 in groups of five. The first one is on Monday June 22nd from 10.00 til 14.00.

The sad fact is that around 70% of all car seats are used incorrectly. That means that only three out of every ten children are actually sitting safely in the car.

I don’t think that car seat safety gets the attention it deserves in antenatal and parenting classes, or in childminder or doula training, etc. Yet it is vitally important, the 70% misuse rate results in around 20 deaths and 500 life-changing injuries every year. It doesn’t have to be this way, many of these injuries can be prevented by using the right car seat and using it correctly.

Let me help you get it right and make sure that your children are safe on every car journey!

In this four-hour workshop you will learn:
- about the law
- how to choose the correct car seat
- how to fit the seat into the car
- how to fit the child correctly
- the most common errors
- why rear facing is so important

Throughout the presentation, as well as tea/coffee and biscuits, there will be practical sessions where we will fit a variety of car seats on a demo rig, and I will answer any questions you may have. There will be car seats available to practice on, and you are also welcome to bring your own.

The workshop costs £100 p.p. and is held in groups of five at my house in South Norwood, London SE25. The first session is on Monday June 22nd ’26 and can be booked on my website. If you would like to get a group of friends together, I can come to you instead, this costs £120 p.p. for a minimum of five people. Please get in touch if you’d like to arrange this.

🧡 This Child Safety Week, we’re celebrating one of the simplest ways to help protect little passengers: keeping them rear facing for as long as possible.
Rear facing car seats are designed to support a child’s head, neck, and spine by distributing crash forces more evenly in the event of a collision. That’s why Axkid recommend keeping children rear-facing to a minimum of four or five years but ideally much longer. Most of Axkid’s rear facing car seats go up to 125cm which is seven years on average.
Every stage of childhood deserves the highest level of protection, and every journey deserves peace of mind.

Rear facing is not just for one short stage.
Children grow at different rates, and the right set-up can look different from one child to the next. But the need for protection remains the same.
At Axkid, we recommend rear facing for as long as possible, up to approximately six or even seven, years depending on the child and the seat.
Different ages can still point in the same direction.

With the right set-up, even a compact car can make room for rear facing. In this case, placing two rear facing seats on the same side helps create more usable space and can make everyday travel easier.

A smaller car does not always mean you have to compromise. Sometimes, it is simply about finding a smarter layout.

Rear facing is safer because:
👉 It offers enhanced protection for your child’s head, neck, and spine during a collision
👉 A child’s head is proportionately much heavier than an adult’s, putting their delicate neck at risk
👉 Rear facing car seats’ shells offer better protection at every impact angle in the event of a collision

Still, the majority of children are turned forward facing far too early. Not because parents want to put their child at risk, but because they lack the knowledge – and even worse, because European regulation permits forward facing from as early as 15 months.

To change this, we need to spread awareness so that more children can remain rear-facing for longer.
