Today is International Museum Day, a day that raises awareness about the role museums play in society, supporting cultural exchange, understanding, cooperation, and peace. This year’s theme is ‘Museums Uniting a Divided World’.
Throughout my career so far, I’ve worked with lots of museums:
Some of you may not know that an outfit from my graduate Windrush collection was acquired by the London Museum in 2021 to help tell the story of Windrush in London. Since then, I’ve worked with even more museums teaching creative workshops that celebrate culture, heritage and identity including the , and the .
And from April 2026 until March 2027, the ‘You Called We Came’ bag from my graduate collection is now on display at the in Brussels as part of their temporary exhibition, ‘Postcolonial?’ The exhibition explores the long-lasting effects of colonisation and its ending across Europe over the last 70 years, and my work has been included as part of the story of Windrush and the effects of British colonialism. I also created a custom ‘Black & British’ outfit for the exhibition.
Museums serve as a great day out to see amazing things, but they also give us space to question, reflect, and challenge what we thought we knew.
I’m proud and grateful that my work can be part of that conversation 🧡
