Birthday wishlists on social media have become quite the trend.

While there is nothing wrong with people celebrating their birthdays in their own way, I sometimes wonder what this culture is doing to personal branding and public image, especially for professionals.

A birthday wishlist is meant to be a list of things one would appreciate receiving, but lately, some have jokingly described it as a “procurement plan” rather than a birthday celebration.

The humour may be lighthearted, but it raises an interesting conversation about perception, expectations, and how we present ourselves online.

As communicators, we understand that image is not only about what we intend to communicate, but also about how our audience interprets it. In the digital age, every post contributes to the story people tell about us.

Perhaps the question is not whether one should post a birthday wishlist, but whether the message it sends aligns with the personal or professional brand one seeks to build.

I have received a book as a token of appreciation in recognition of my service in my role as a Public Relations Officer from a key person I have had the privilege to serve.

While I may not mention the name, I am deeply grateful for this honour and truly humbled by the recognition.

It is a reminder that even quiet work is seen and valued. This can only be God. I remain thankful and inspired to continue serving wholeheartedly in my capacity, always with excellence and integrity, as though I am serving God Himself.

😂 This meme is funny, but it got me thinking about leadership, image, and adaptability.
Of course, the way someone dresses does not automatically determine how intelligent, capable, or successful they are.

However, first impressions matter, and the way we present ourselves often sends a message about our mindset and willingness to move with the times.

The joke behind this meme is that if your boss still dresses like this, chances are they may also be resistant to change, new technology, and innovations such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). Whether that’s true or not, it raises an important point: today’s leaders need to be open to learning, evolving, and embracing new ways of working.

As an Image Consultant, I always emphasize that image is more than clothing. It is about how you communicate, how you lead, how you adapt, and how you position yourself in a constantly changing world.
You don’t have to follow every trend, but you do need to remain relevant.

The leaders who will thrive in the future are those who combine experience with innovation, professionalism with adaptability, and confidence with continuous learning.
