This is my first proper attempt at embroidery, still some learning for me to do but felt this was a better medium to convey my distress this week. Inspired by graffiti seen in Barcelona

I travelled home to Dublin from the UK last weekend and honestly it broke my heart. The plane was full of happy tourists who were heading to Dublin for stag/hen parties; I stood in Ryanair queues listening to them plan who was staying in what room in their Air BNB. All the while I can't move home because there's no affordable rent, because all the homes are being used for short term lets.

There are currently 5,000 children in homeless accommodation in Ireland. And those are just the ones we know about.

But we have planes full of tourists having a laugh and getting drunk.
I'm not angry with these folks, most of them have no idea the cost their weekend away is having on the Irish society. It's the fault of greedy landlords, an inept government with no regulation or will to enforce what little does exist. But it's ordinary people who suffer.

I've spent the last month or so working on this Handala crochet tapestry. It's genuinely been heartbreaking to bear witness to such a horror unfolding. And to know that somehow in the time it took me to make this, people stopped talking about how the people of Gaza are still starving. When will this end?
