🧵🪡 Delighted to bring this beautiful, well-travelled patchwork quilt back to life. Quite a few seam repairs were needed and even some patches were completely replaced, carefully preserving the character of each piece and matching the overall colour scheme of burgundy, pinks and purples in beautiful batik-style fabrics. Bought during an extensive journey, every patch held its own story of places explored and memories made. It was a real pleasure to work on — and now it’s ready to be enjoyed again… or even accompany its owners on the next adventure 🌍. Thanks for choosing Makes & Mends.

🧵🪡 🛋️ Another busy upholstery-filled day included tear repairs, re-buttoning, and a clever repositioning of the manufacturer’s label to neatly cover a small scuff — a simple fix that makes a big difference. It’s always a pleasure completing work for Eco Lounge, based right here in Neston. These sofas are now refreshed and ready to continue their journey to their new homes. 🧵🪡 🛋️ It’s been an upholstery filled day today with seam repairs, tear and hole fixes, and re buttoning with the aid of this rather huge and scary tufting needle! Hard going on the fingers but another set of lovely jobs completed for Eco Lounge based right here in Neston and these sofas can now continue their journey to their new homes! 🪡🧵Nice shortening job on these super soft burgundy pants. Lots of pinning and tacking to stabilise the fabric and then a careful slow sew with stretch needle and Teflon foot for a lovely neat new hem.

🪡🧵 Ouch! Someone was a hungry boi 🐶! Challenging repair as right on the arm and very visible, stabilised underneath, more padding added to regain the arm shape and a patch harvested from the seat base used to repair the missing fabric. Some of the back cushions had also been a bit, er, nibbled so they were repaired at the same time. All done and off to its new home via Eco Lounge right here in Neston. Another job done and a pleasure to work with 😀

🪡🧵 Lovely repair job on this very unusual Loaf sofa which looked like a huge cloud! As you can see from the “before” pic, the fabric was coming away in high traffic areas and needed reinforcing. Tricky to get the hexagons looking lined up, and was actually quite hard to focus on close up! 😳. All done and off to its new home via the brilliant Eco Lounge right here in Neston. A pleasure to work with 😀

🧵🪡 Haven’t posted for a little while as have had a few home things needing my full attention. This gorgeous oversized tuxedo altered to take about 2” off each shoulder and included back darts for a more fitted shape for this lovely customer. Lining opened up and then the very complex shoulder layers of fabric, wadding and reinforcing support restructured and re stitched. Finally, the lining was resealed for a flawless finish. All ready for its graffiti spray which was next on its journey! Such an adventure for this preloved jacket! Thanks for choosing Makes & Mends.

🧵🪡 Hi everyone, hope you all had a lovely Christmas break! I’ll be back working from Monday 5 January and ready to take on new sewing and alterations jobs. 🧵🪡 As I put my scissors and pins down for the Christmas period, I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported Makes & Mends this year. Your trust, your projects and ideas, and your recommendations to other people have meant the world to me.
I’ve had the pleasure of working on so many wonderful pieces this year—from everyday fixes and household items, to special-occasion pieces—and, most importantly, I’ve had the chance to meet some truly lovely people along the way. Every fitting, every chat, and every stitch has been part of what makes this work so meaningful. For those lovely repeat customers and local businesses who have used my service on many occasions - thank you, you know who you are ❤️.
Thank you for keeping me busy, inspired, and doing what I absolutely love. As I have a small break for Christmas. I’m looking forward to the New Year, with more projects, more creativity, and hopefully seeing many of you again—along with some new faces too.
