A story from lamb to loom
Imagine wrapping yourself in a cosy blanket that is not only warm and soft, but also tells a story of how it was made. A story of the sheep, of the people who care about the environment, and the craft of making something beautiful and meaningful. A story that we can all be part of.
This is the story of the Falkland Blanket, a project that aims to transform the wool from organically reared sheep from the Falkland Estate in Fife, Scotland, into a limited edition, heritage, single origin product. A blanket that celebrates the natural undyed colours of the fleece, the skill and passion of the farmers, spinners, and weavers, and the connection between the land and the people.
But this is not just a story of a blanket. It is also a story of a challenge. A challenge to value wool, which has been depreciating for decades, despite its amazing qualities of warmth, softness, breathability, and durability. A challenge to create a sustainable and ethical alternative to the mass-produced and synthetic textiles that dominate the market. A challenge to revive local and traditional industry.
And this is where you come in. We invite you to join us on this journey, to witness and support the process of making the Falkland Blanket, from fleece to finished product. We will be documenting every step of the way, sharing with you the stories of the people and the places involved, the challenges and the joys. We will also be offering you the opportunity to own one of these limited edition ‘2022 clip’ Falkland Blankets.
