Our doors will be open all bank holiday weekend, and I’ll be on hand to help you find the perfect pair of Chapter 2 boots, or a beautifully crafted piece of original art from one of our inspiring makers.

We’ve got so many special pieces in store, all of them individually crafted by skilled hands which means you’ll always discover something unique.

Overheard through the window this month:

“Ooh, this must be where the drag queens come to get their stilettos made”

Well, no, not exactly. But we could and would make shoes for drag if someone requested a pair.

The rainbow of colourful leathers and boots in the window are because we’re celebrating Pride this month in support of our LGBTQ+ friends and community, and to show that everyone’s welcome here in Alfriston 🌈

Over this past few weeks men have bought Chapter 2 boots for themselves, trans people have tried on various classic and sparkly pairs, and a drag wrestler chatted to us about the possibility of making a custom pair of wrestling boots. All this and more because of the colours in the window.

❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤎🩵💗🤍💛

I feel happy knowing that people from across the whole community have felt welcome in our shop.

So although making shoes for drag is not our signature style it’s not out the realms of possibility. We’re happy to make shoes for everyone, all you’ve gotta do is ask.

Rain.

It’s one of the reasons we developed the winter soles. So that you can still have the style & comfort of our signature Chapter 2 boots but with an extra layer of practicality for days like today.

It’s nearly time for Lewes Artwave Festival

As always for ArtWave we’ll be sharing our love of shoemaking with a display of our craft and a demo, except this year we’ll be showing in our own shop which is very exciting! 🙌🏼

We’ll have a big display of shoemaking upstairs that you can drop in to see everyday the shop is open and in the final weekend of Artwave - the 19th & 20th Sept, Tom will be in store doing some live shoemaking demos.

It’s a great chance to come and chat to the shoemaker & to see how shoes are actually made.

Alongside Chapter 2 shoes the shop will of course be filled with a curation of amazing art, ceramics & craft from some of our favourite makers, so make sure to add us to your ArtWave trail.

You’ll find us at venue 57 on the rural trail in Alfriston.

The waiting list is growing.

We’ve currently only got size 40 & 41 available in our best selling Harrier Boots, and even then we’re down to the last couple of pairs.

There’s another small batch of boots in work which I’m expecting to be ready around the start of October, and with the waiting list growing it’s starting to look like key sizes could sell out quickly when they arrive.

So, if the Harrier Boot is on your wish list this autumn I highly recommend you get your name on the waiting list.

Before we release the fresh batch of boots online we’ll be in touch with everyone on the waiting list to give them a head start to get hold of a pair.

To add your name to the waiting list just send us a dm with your name, email & size.

Attempting to not really open IG much this holiday and for once I haven’t brought my laptop with me which means no emails, or doing work stuff on the side.

But when you have your own business do you ever really switch off?!

I’ve been thinking about what to say as my boy turns 18 and is now officially an adult. It’s a strange feeling. Grown up but also not really.

Thinking back to this day 18 years ago has been quite hard for me. His birth wasn’t straightforward and I still struggle with the memories and emotions from that day, and my introduction to motherhood.

I always felt I’d failed him right from the beginning but seeing the content & self assured young man I’ve raised I know that couldn’t be further from the truth.

So what to say about Connor?!

He’s considered about most things, calm, steady headed and generally thinks things through before he decides to do something. He’s interested in world politics and is willing to stand up for what he believes in.

He follows his own path without fear of what others think, and has always, always stayed true to himself no matter how ‘uncool’ his hobbies have been over the years; from the steam trains, to the planes, to the tanks, the model making, the historical accuracy and all the particularly dry sounding history books that line his shelves. I never dreamt I’d know so much about any of those topics but that’s his world, so I know way more than my fair share.

He’s a young dude finding his own style; from his signature long hair, old brown brogues, vintage trousers & military jackets all teamed with the classic Murphy frown and a fuzzy moustache.

I’m not ready for him to move out but as seeing as he got the grades this morning he’ll be following his passion for history and heading off to uni next month. Amazingly exciting and heartbreaking all rolled into one.

Feels like everything is changing and I wonder where my little boy went? And at the same time I’m so very proud of the young man he’s becoming.
