Today I had the privilege of facilitating the funeral of a gentleman whose greatest role in life was simply being there for his family.

As his children reflected on their younger years, it was clear that so many of their happiest memories were made alongside their dad…. Weekends were filled with adventures; stockcar racing, watching the greyhounds, clay pigeon shooting and many more little outings that become treasured memories.

And then there were the weekends at home… sweets and ice cream while settling down together to watch scary movies, creating the kind of memories that may have seemed ordinary at the time, but become priceless with hindsight.

Today was not just a goodbye, but a celebration of a dad who gave his family a lifetime of memories to hold onto.
It was an honour to help his family tell his story and to be entrusted with such an important part of their farewell. 💙🙏🏻💖

Back to school… 📚💛

Today was back-to-school day… and oooh, how good it was to see all the students and teachers again! There was also a lovely welcome for a new student into my little room.

Counselling can bring out so many emotions…. sadness, anger, fear, uncertainty, jealousy… but also laughter, joy and hope. And today, there were plenty of those joyful emotions shared.

There were lots of stories about the holidays, lots of plans made for the coming weeks and lots of moments of connection.
As we recapped on the school holidays, we deflected in all sorts of ways… playing Jenga was one favourite! Although for someone else, kicking a ball at the wall proved to be an equally good way of deflecting! 😄

Being creative has always been such an important part of my counselling sessions, so when one child asked if we could make a chatterbox…. of course we did. 📝✨

It’s certainly good to be back.
Back to the conversations, the creativity, the laughter, the big emotions and most importantly, being there for the children as they navigate whatever the coming weeks may bring. 💙🙏🏻💖

Today we said goodbye to Sylvia. ❤️

Sylvia lived a full and interesting life, filled with family, travel, laughter and plenty of stories to tell.

She was strong willed, determined and fiercely independent…. A woman who always knew her own mind and wasn’t afraid to stand by it.

Sylvia was a devoted Mum, Grandma and Great-Grandma and she took enormous pride in her family. She dedicated much of her life to her career as an English teacher and her grandchildren were lucky enough to share many of their school holidays with her. She always made sure there was plenty of fun, laughter and adventure along the way.

There were so many happy family memories at Grandma’s house….. Sunday roasts, baking blackberry pies and the special Christmas and Easter gatherings that brought everyone together. Family meant the world to Sylvia and she created so many memories that will be cherished forever.

Today we take comfort in the hope that Sylvia is now raising a glass of Pinot Grigio as she is lovingly reunited with Norman….. “Cheers!” 🥂

Today, we said goodbye to Kath.

Kath didn’t have the easiest start in life. Sadly, she lost her mum when she was just seven years old, but with the love and support of her family, Kath was lovingly guided through those early years until she was able to live independently at just 16.

Kath went on to build a life filled with love. She became a devoted partner, a loving mum to her six children and later a very proud nanna to her eight grandchildren.

And like many grandparents, Kath had a very special rule when it came to her grandchildren: if they wanted it, Nanna would probably let them have it!
She loved her grandchildren dearly and always kept a watchful eye on what they were up to…., although in Kath’s case, that sometimes meant keeping tabs on them through Facebook! She somehow always seemed to know what they were doing.

Kath will be lovingly remembered for so many things.
For her knitting…..her baking: especially those phenomenal scones. (pronunciation to suit each person) 🤣…. the endless cups of tea….. And for her gossiping, because Kath absolutely loved a good gossip with her friends!

But beyond all of those little things that made Kath who she was, she will be remembered for the love she gave to the people around her. For her family, her friends, her kindness, her humour, and all of the memories she created.

Kath was one of those people whose presence became part of everyday life. The kind of person you expected to be there, to have a cup of tea with, to have a laugh with, or to share a little bit of gossip with.
And that is why saying goodbye today was so incredibly difficult.

Kath will be missed beyond words by her partner, her children, her grandchildren, her family, her friends and by everyone who was lucky enough to know and love her.

Today we said goodbye to Nora. Nora was a lady who could never, ever be described as ordinary. She was full of character...

Today we said goodbye to Nora.

Nora was a lady who could never, ever be described as ordinary. She was full of character, warmth and her wicked sense of humour…. she certainly left her mark on everyone who knew her.

Nora was a much loved Mum, Nana, Great-Nana, sister, partner, auntie and friend. Today, many stories were shared, from her mischievous childhood right through to her later years, each one painting a picture of a very special lady.

One thing that shone through all of the stories was just how devoted Nora was to her family. Family meant everything to her.

There may have been many miles between Nora and her eldest granddaughter, but distance never changed their relationship. There were still plenty of visits and of course, the good old use of technology with FaceTime helping to keep them close when they couldn’t be together.

There will certainly be a quiet void in the hearts and homes of Nora’s family. The emotion felt throughout the service today was a true reflection of just how deeply loved she was.

Today we said goodbye to Alex.

Alex was a much loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend.

Through Alex, his family learned the importance of living in the here and now…. to appreciate the present moment and to find happiness in the simple things that can mean so much.

Alex will be remembered for his love, his honesty, his wonderful sense of humour and of course, his huge fondness for giraffes. 🦒
It was so lovely to see the giraffe theme today and the spectacular floral display, with its special giraffe touch… such a thoughtful and special tribute to Alex.

Alex’s life ended far too soon. But through him, there have been many valuable lessons learned, most importantly…. the importance of kindness.
Alex was such a kind soul. He was honest and genuine and you always knew where you stood with him.
He had a way of making people smile and bringing joy in his own unique way.
It was lovely hearing the many wonderful memories from his mum and the fabulous reading from his dad.

Alex leaves a huge void in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed. 🦒 💙

Today we said goodbye to Pauline.

Pauline’s life was dedicated to those she loved. She was a devoted wife, Mum and Nana. Today’s service was filled with so many fond memories of a very special lady.

Nothing captured the essence of Pauline more than the love she had for her family. She had a huge heart and welcomed everyone, always making people feel included, valued and at home. She was someone who was always there with the best advice and a listening ear.

We were fortunate today to see photographs from Pauline’s life and they beautifully reflected so much of what was shared in the eulogy. Pauline certainly had style…. both in her dress sense and in her home décor. She had a wonderful eye for making things beautiful.

And of course, we can’t forget Pauline’s eclectic taste in music! You could always find her tapping her foot or singing along, whether it was modern-day music or the golden oldies she had loved for years.

Today was a difficult day, but it was also a beautiful celebration of a much-loved woman who brought love, warmth, laughter and wisdom to so many lives. ❤️🙏🏻💗

On Thursday we said goodbye to Tony, a much loved and devoted husband to Janet and a respected Corporal for the Royal engineers. 

Throughout their life together Tony and Janet were inseparable. They shared many wonderful adventures travelling to various parts of the world.

Tony was also well known in many parts of the world for his exceptional craftsmanship, particularly his miniature dolls’ house furniture. The precision, intricate detail and skill shown in his woodwork were phenomenal. His work was a true reflection of his patience, dedication and remarkable talent.

Tony even wrote about his work which was featured in a German magazine. He was highly respected within the miniature furniture community and his creations were certainly sought after by collectors worldwide.

Tony leaves behind a wonderful legacy through the beautiful work he created, as well as the many memories shared with those who knew and loved him.
