Avocado Pear

Avocado Pear Boutique, bespoke children's clothing. Handmade in Cornwall. Avocado Pear started trading in 2015. I settled down and had my own family.

It is a new business born out of a need to make clothes for my own children that fitted their skinny frames. I picked up the art of sewing at a young age whilst watching my own Mum make some wonderful creations. I made my first dress around age 8 and sewed up little bags and other items over the next few years when the sewing machine was free! Then, came a long break where school, university and l

ife in general got in the way. My foray back into sewing started by making a buggy snuggle for my first child, then a small jacket for my second. Now that they are a bit older, my two children (age 6 and 4) are on the skinny and very skinny side of normal. Finding clothes for them (trousers for my son) and basically anything for my daughter that actually fits them is quite hard. So I started making dresses and shorts for my children, and had so many compliments I decided to take the next step and make a few bits to sell. I love sewing, I find it relaxing and immensely rewarding, and I am constantly learning new techniques and ways to finish items off. I take pride in the overall finish of my items, and try to avoid using quick easy methods (like the overlocker) in favour of more traditional, long lasting techniques like French seams or Flat-felled seams. I favour invisible zips over snaps, and I like to line bodices instead of just using facings. These techniques do add a bit more time to the overall make, but I think it's worth it for the superior finish.
