At the heart of everything I create is a detail I’m incredibly proud of — every single piece is handmade by me.
I also teach sewing skills and love sharing what I’ve learned along the way. Whether you’re here for the sculptural silhouettes, the beautiful fabrics, or to pick up a few tips yourself, you’re very welcome here. It’s lovely to have you.
In addition to what you see in the video, here are a few key things to note when applying elastic.
Every type of elastic has a different degree of stretch. Most makers find a favourite and work consistently with it. I specifically use rubber swim elastic, as my pole bodysuits are designed to double as swimwear.
When measuring elastic, I reduce the length by a percentage to achieve the correct tension. For this 10mm rubber elastic, I reduce the measurement by 4%, remembering to allow for the overlap.
To distribute the tension evenly, I fold the elastic in half and mark the centre, then mark the centre of each half again. I repeat the same process on the garment — marking the halfway point and the two quarter points — before matching these to the elastic to ensure the stretch is balanced evenly around the strap.
