Sewn cotton mask reduce spread of droplets when coughing to about 2.5 inches - while they travel over 3 foot far without a mask.
Single layer masks like the cheap ones you can buy in some shops are not very efficient when it comes to contain droplets.
I'm on a short family break at the moment, but I'm taking preorders of 2 and 3 cotton layer masks. I have non-woven material to add to the 2 cotton layer masks too.
Without a mask, droplets produced during coughing can travel up to 12 feet. With a mask, this distance is reduced to just a few inches.

Did you know how large your nasal cavity is compared to your mouth? It's massive!
When wearing a mask, visualise the depth of it and how the air streams in when you inhale and softly streams out when you exhale. Sense the space from the nasal cavity to the trachea when breathing too. You will be able to breathe better without restriction that way while you wear your mask. Try it out!

Couldn't help myself!
One of my favourite play things from childhood was my dad's pantone colour scales. I could match these fabrics with my postcards!

The most popular question since 'When will I be back playing?'?
Should people wear a face mask during exercise: What should clinicians advise?
I wonder what would happen to the endless cycles of respiratory infections if we would wear masks like in Asian countries - out of respect and care towards our fellows?

Masks are going to be compulsory on public transport in Ireland (finally!)
If you're looking for washable cotton masks rather than buying a pack of 10 disposable ones, pm me!
2 or 4 fabric masks are much cheaper over a few weeks usage and don't create the same waste. I will have double layer cotton ones with disposable filters to slide in soon too.

I started making masks first for my family, then I continued sewing all sorts of different patterns I could find online because I like to find the best fitting one! After about 10 different shapes, I think I found the one I’m proud of to offer!
My non-medical fabric masks are darted to fit well around the nose and chin, while keeping enough space in front of nose and mouth to keep breathing easy. Unlike pleated masks or tightly fitted ones, my masks keep their shape due to the 3 dimensional sewing, which helps avoid that soggy feeling you might expect.
Available in 2 and 3 layered 100% cotton for effortless washing (take the nose shaper out, stick the mask into a laundry bag and wash with your normal wash). All fabrics are prewashed, so they don’t shrink anymore. For a crisp fit, iron and you’re ready for another day.
My children’s masks are made of 2 layers with a unique shape that allows for even more space in front of the mouth and nose.
All adult masks with 3 layers have a pocket for a filter, and 2 layer masks with filter pocket are also available.
Of course non-medical fabric face coverings do not prevent infections, but they will radically minimize the amount of droplets spread by breathing and talking. Masks on their own are not enough - please observe spatial distancing when possible, and wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap.
