Posting this again as it’s something a lot of people don’t realise….

If you choose dairy free alternatives always check the nutritional content compared to the dairy you are replacing. Dairy foods are a great source of protein and calcium however a lot of dairy free alternatives are low in protein and some don’t have calcium added.

How we slept after all of this I’ll never know, but….I have such lovely memories sitting at Granny’s kitchen table with this ‘feast’ 🥰 while we watched the the Late Late Show on her black & white TV (no remotes, no colour & definitely no Netflix 😂).
There’s so much more to food than what it contains. It gives us warmth & comfort & can be the source of such lovely memories 🥰 if you’re worrying about every ingredient it contains then you are being robbed of all of this.

🍓 we use a lot of strawberries in our house & I’m sure you’ll agree there’s nothing worse than buying them and then they are gone all mushy within a day or 2!

🍓I’ve tried loads of ‘hacks’ on how to stop this happening. I’ve tried the vinegar, the bread soda, both of these mixed together 🙈 but I’ve found just simple water does the same job!

🍓 I’ve tried different containers to try to prolong their life & I’ve found the mason jar to be the best.

🍓 if there’s any strawberry damaged I don’t add them to the jar, I try to use them straight away instead.

🍓 full disclosure some weeks this method works better than others, I think it depends on the variety of the strawberry.

🍓 but over all it does keep them fresh for longer. I also love having them washed and ready to use!

Having a little look after you go can help pick up any changes in what you’re passing. It’s always important to discuss any changes you notice with your GP so they can rule out anything of concern

Never feel embarrassed talking to a health professional about this.

Everyone has ‘to go’ - even the royals 😜

🥄 ‘What yogurt should I buy?’ This is one of the most common questions I get in clinic

🥄 I will always advise natural yogurt as the best but if you don’t like it that’s ok.

🥄 Some of any type of yogurt is better for your gut health than no yogurt.

🥄 Try different brands - taste & texture can vary greatly between brands - this is particularly true for natural yogurt

🥄 what’s your favourite type of yogurt??

Behind the perfect pictures a different story was unfolding….

Not 1 but 2 of the kids were sick on the day 🤒

I ate my dinner with a 2 year old whinging on my knee (& discovered as much as I loved my outfit it wasn’t comfortable for a sick 2 year old to sit on 🙈🙈🙈)

After months of planning the one thing you can’t plan for happened - sickness!

But that’s life & it could have been worse. Social media can make everything look so perfect but real life isn’t ‘picture perfect’.

What does this have to do with nutrition? Everything! No matter how well you plan your meals and exercise, life will throw curve balls that will throw it all off track. The most important thing is being able to manage those times & understand that things don’t need to be perfect & everything won’t always go as planned. And as Scarlet O’Hara said “After all, tomorrow is another day!”

💖 This is something I suggest to people who are struggling with poor appetite and unintentional weight loss as it’s easy & light to eat.

💖 t’s also something I have always loved since I was a child. One of my grandaunts would bring us some when she was coming to stay with my granny & no offence to her but it was the main reason I liked to see her coming 😜

💖Food isn’t just about calories, protein or other nutritional content. It’s something to be enjoyed & can bring back happy memories & be a source of comfort.

I had really bad reflux for a number of years

I went to my GP for blood tests and a full assessment and was referred for an OGD which confirmed I had reflux oesophagitis. It settled on medication but would flare up again on stopping it.

So I started making staged changes to my diet to see could I find a dietary trigger. This took a while, as I had to try each thing separately (if I tried everything together I’d never know what was working and what wasn’t)

Eventually I got complete symptom relief when I switched to soy milk & yogurts ( I actually had an intolerance to dairy as a baby). It’s important to note that many people that have issues with dairy intolerance have the same issues with soy but thankfully this was not the case for me. Over time I gradually reintroduced dairy (because I love it!) and thankfully I now know what my ‘limit’ is. So I’ve managed to settle my symptoms and still include certain amounts of the foods I love.

If you have any gut symptoms it’s important you visit your GP for a full assessment to rule out anything of serious concern. Please don’t take advice from random people on the internet.
Only take nutrition advice from CORU registered dietitians.

💖Celebrated our eldest First Holy Communion on our 11th Wedding Anniversary 💖

💖and of course we had to return to where we had our wedding reception for yet another fabulous meal

And I loved my shoes so much I had to give them a place on the grid 🤣 (which matched my outfit perfectly 😝)

Wedding Days are long day! You need fuel!

And it doesn’t have to be a fry, this is just what I like to do!

Am I concerned about eating ‘ultra processed meats’? No! Because I usually don’t include these foods on a daily or even weekly basis.

And most importantly enjoy the wedding!
