The Nauvari saree is more than a drape, it carries the history of Maharashtra’s women, movement and strength. 🇮🇳

Traditionally worn in a distinctive dhoti style drape, the nine yard saree allowed greater freedom of movement than conventional styles. It became closely associated with Maharashtra’s warrior culture and with formidable Maratha women such as Maharani Tarabai, who led the Maratha resistance against the Mughal Empire, and Jijabai, whose leadership and influence helped shape the foundations of the Maratha Empire.

Paired with traditional Maharashtrian jewellery like the nath, thushi, mohan mala, kolhapuri saaj and green glass bangles, the Nauvari today remains a powerful symbol of Maharashtrian identity and cultural pride.

This Independence Day, celebrating the women who proved that courage and culture have never been mutually exclusive. 🇮🇳
