Magh Bihu – A Festival of Food, Family, and Joy

Magh Bihu, also known as Bhogali Bihu, is one of the most important festivals of Assam. It is celebrated in the month of Magh (January) after the harvest season. This festival is a time of happiness, sharing, and thanking nature for a good harvest.

On this day, people enjoy many traditional foods like pitha, laru, doi, chira, and rice cakes. Families and neighbors come together, cook, eat, and celebrate. Bonfires called Meji are lit in the morning, and people offer prayers for peace, health, and prosperity.

Magh Bihu teaches us the value of togetherness, gratitude, and simple living. It reminds us to enjoy what we have and to share with others.
