February 1992, Sarita Handa turned her passion for textiles to found Sarita Handa Exports Pvt. Having traveled the length and breadth of India as an Army wife and seeing the diversity of the weaves particularly the Saree, it was love at first sight. The vision for the company was always very clear- Product Made in India, by Indian Artisans but with an International aesthetic and quality. The idea,

right from the beginning was always to ensure that the Artisans knew that they could count on us. One of the first initiatives was to adopt a village and train the women of the village in hand quilting. Meet Syamanta aka Sam Das, Head of Design & Product Development at Sarita Handa Exports.

Growing up in Guwahati, Assam, Sam spent hours painting alongside his father, a medical professional with a deep love for art. It was during those early sessions that his own artistic instinct began to take shape.

Choosing creativity over medicine, Sam turned down offers from medical colleges to pursue B. Tech in textiles. Later he choosed design in NIFT over M. Tech in IIT. He joined Sarita Handa 21 years ago as a Junior Designer. Today, he leads a team of more than 50 and artisans, driving design and product development for the company.
