House Of Lakhs Home Of Handloom Sarees & More

Day 5 of 28.
96 hours. One man. One saree.

I sat in their home and watched the weaver show me a piece he had just taken off the loom. His wife beside him. His children in the same room.

This is what handloom actually means.
Not just a weave. Not just a technique.
Someone’s life, woven into fabric.

This Katan silk tissue is Day 5 of my 28 favourites — and possibly the one that changed how I look at every saree I carry.

Day 4 of 28.

I was once told that lighter, brighter shades might not suit my skin tone.

And for a while, I stopped choosing them for myself.

But when I started House Of Lakhs in October 2024 and came across this bold green saree, I added it to the collection immediately.

Even if I wasn’t fully comfortable wearing such shades yet.

Because building a brand also meant unlearning what I had been told.

And when I finally wore it, I realised something.

Colour isn’t about complexion.
It’s about confidence.

Day 2 of 28.

Yesterday was bright and celebratory.
Today feels calm.

This cotton silk handloom from our newest collection has quietly become one of my absolute favourites.

Maybe it’s the mint base.
Maybe it’s the fine pink checks.
Or maybe it’s just that effortless summer feeling it carries.

Checks are slowly becoming my new obsession.

Lightweight. Structured. Breathable.

A saree I would wear in the studio, to a meeting, or on a soft summer afternoon.

They tried to control our land.
They tried to control our industry.
They even tried to control how we should dress.

During British rule, Indians were forced to stop wearing their own textiles so that our handloom industry could collapse.

But India resisted.
The Khadi movement was not about fashion. It was about freedom.

Even today, from the highest offices of power to the everyday women of our villages, handloom continues to be worn with pride.

Because when someone tries to decide how women should live, dress, or present themselves, choosing for yourself becomes an act of resistance.

Handloom is not outdated.
It is independence worn with dignity.
