The word ‘Mitti’ roughly translates to soil or clay. But in the hands of a master artisans of bengal, the humble clay can transform into sturdy pots, and sculptures. In the context of Bengal, ‘mitti’ is a source of livelihood and the last remnants of a dying cultural heritage. The terracotta clay pottery industry of Bengal is as old as the hills. It dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization. Ho

wever, due to a combination of various factors like lack of demand, shortage of exposure and exploitation of unscrupulous middlemen, the pottery industry which dates back to 1500 BC is on the brink of extinction. ‘Mitti’ is a platform dedicated to celebrate the rural artisans of Bengal and help them dream big. The purpose of this page is threefold, to preserve, promote and spread awareness about the rural pottery industry of Bengal. Our goals are big, but we can fulfil them only with your support. Every contribution, no matter how small will make a big difference for our artisans. Your support can help them sustain their art and livelihood. Together we can help our artisans fly high!
