Before his enlightenment, Siddhartha practiced severe austerities for six years, believing that extreme self-denial would lead to awakening. But near the banks of the Niranjana River, he realized that neither indulgence nor self-mortification brings true wisdom.
When Sujata offered him a simple bowl of milk-rice, he accepted it and regained his strength. With renewed clarity, he chose a path of balance — the Middle Path — which later became the foundation of his teachings.
As I reflect on this sacred place, I am reminded that peace is not found in extremes, but in balance.
