Shomari Sekou Samuels is a Jamaican Artist known for his endeavors in Art, Design, Photography and Ideas. His passion for the arts sprouts from his very creative rich upbringing by his parents, family and community. His passion for the arts was fostered at his alma mata Ardenne High School, where he played a critical role in the development of the art department program. He went on to become one o

f three students who were the first in the school to participate in the University of Cambridge Advanced level exams in 13th Grade, obtaining the highest award, “A” and the highest grade in the island for that year. His enthusiasm in design and art never waned and led him to participate in national competitions and festivals


After high school, Shomari’s passion for art and design continued to grow and influenced his entering the Jamaican Cultural Development Commission’s Annual Art Competition. He went on to take home the most awards of the 2007 competition, earning the: New-comer Prize, for the most outstanding new Youth Entrant; Promise Prize, for the most outstanding new Youth Entrant and the Most Outstanding Draftsmanship for “Massi Bride” a pen and ink on paper composition. Shomari continues to contribute on the art scene participating in festivals and galleries under the name, Sekou Samuels, his middle name. He has participated in the Liguanea Art Festival and his work can be found in Hico Galleries, Kingston. He continued his fervour for design at the University of Technology, Caribbean School of Architecture. Here he continued to develop his design and artistic aesthetics, and survived the very grueling and challenging Architectural programme with the encouragement of his peers, family and lecturers, he was able to graduate the school with honors. It is within this space that he gained insight into new ways of thinking, gaining valuable knowledge on ideas and visionaries that are regarded as world shapers and shakers. This has motivated and inspired him to continue to pursue new avenues in the development of design relevant not only to his homeland Jamaica but other tropical island locations as well.
