Design Name: KABUTO
The samurai kabuto (helmet) was a traditional piece of Japanese armor used from the Sengoku to Edo periods, serving not only as protection but also as a powerful symbol of identity and spirit.
While its primary function was to guard the head in battle, the kabuto also expressed a warrior’s rank, personality, and beliefs. The front crest, called maedate, often featured elaborate designs such as animals, deities, or family crests, showcasing the samurai’s pride, faith, and lineage.
Kabuto also helped distinguish allies from enemies on the battlefield and had a psychological impact, intimidating opponents. Made from iron or leather and coated with lacquer, many helmets combined durability with artistic craftsmanship. More than just armor, the kabuto reflected the heart and soul of the samurai.
