Yes we CAN hem our own t-shirts! Double needle practice is a fun was to work on stretchy jersey knit fabrics! And speaking of stretch, did you know we used elastic for our tassels?! These were once the vital components in mask making back in 2020, but now they serve a new purpose of beautifying our lanterns! If you know me you know that I love to repurpose and save money, and this is just one way we make good use of items we already own! Here’s a video I found of repurposing some great priced items from the dollar tree, what ideas do you think you’ll try? https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BXjzZUEYi/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Sewing around the world! 🌏 Watching my student in Okinawa tackle his second cup koozie attempt while sharing the joy of stitching with his brother made today's online class so special. ❤️🧵

Look at that concentration! 🧵✨
This hard-working student is two lessons deep into creating custom plush bunnies for some brand-new babies in her family. Working with plush fabric and small curves requires so much patience, but she has done an incredible job pin-basting, piecing the frames together, and carefully maneuvering around every edge.
There is nothing sweeter than a handmade gift filled with love from day one. Swipe through to see her process and that proud progress smile! 💚🐰

Last week our family welcomed an exchange student from Japan 🇯🇵 who will be staying with us for the school year! She wanted me to teach her sewing skills also, so we started with one of my favorites, a beautiful pillow case for her bed using the burrito technique! 🥰 it turned out perfect, and her room is now complete!

So proud of the hard work happening in the studio yesterday! ✂️🧵
Our young makers were super busy tackling two completely different skills: building precision with their quilt rows and tapping into creative design to craft this incredible shark stuffy! 🦈💙

Sewing across time zones! 🌏✂️
I used to teach this student when I lived in Okinawa, and I’m so thrilled we’re back at it with online lessons a year later! He brought so many fun creative ideas to our session this month. We’ve already tackled custom projects (check out those hanger covers and koozies!) while sharpening up core fundamentals.
Love seeing this dedication to learning and growing! 🎉🧵

Fabric transformation at its finest! 🌟✂️
There is so much story woven into every piece we create! One of our amazing students—a retired nurse—crafted this gorgeous hanging lantern table runner using fabric from nursing scrubs. Taking fabric rooted in care and healing and transforming it into glowing lantern blocks is such a beautiful picture of transformation, warmth, and lighting the way into a vibrant new chapter of life.
What a perfect symbol of new beginnings. Beautiful work! 🧵💙✨
