Awa'Toriは、才能ある東京在住のマリ人ミュージシャン、ママドゥによるコラの演奏をSpace Unで鑑賞する機会に恵まれました。アフリカの多くの国々で伝統的な楽器がどのように教えられているかを、日本や他の地域と比較することはとても興味深いことでした。他の地域では音楽の授業が一つのコードや音符を学ぶことに焦点を当てていることが多いのに対し、多くのアフリカ文化では、伝統的な楽器を習得するためには、年長者を観察し、音楽を「感じる」ことが重要です。

次回のインタビューでは、ママドゥがコラに出会ったきっかけや、彼が演奏する他の楽器、そして日本での音楽キャリアについて詳しくお話を伺います。ぜひお楽しみに！

Awa'Tori had the pleasure of attending a Kora performance, played by Mamadou, a talented Tokyo-based Malian musician at Space Un. It was fascinating to to learn the difference between how traditional instruments are taught in many African countries compared to Japan and some other parts of the world.While music classes elsewhere often focus on learning one chord or note at a time, in many African cultures, mastering traditional instruments involves observing elders and "feeling" the music.

In our upcoming interview with Mamadou, we explore his introduction to the Kora, the other instruments he plays, and his music career in Japan. Stay tuned for the full interview!

今年、Awa’Toriは、メンズファッションとライフスタイルに特化した日本の雑誌「POPEYE Magazine」の2024年2月号「伝統と職人の技。」特集に協力する栄誉をいただきました。。

この特集において、Awa’Toriはナイジェリアのブランド「エミー・カスビット」との初期連絡からプロジェクト完成までのコミュニケーションと交渉を手掛けました。

これも、Awa’Toriがアフリカと日本のつながりを築くために行っている取り組みの一つです。

This year, Awa’Tori had the honor of working with Japanese magazine, Popeye, a magazine dedicated to men’s fashion and lifestyle, for their February 2024 Traditional Crafts edition.

Awa'Tori supported in identifying the Nigerian brand Emmy Kasbit, for this edition as well as managing communication and negotiation from initial contact to project completion.

This is just one of the ways in which Awa’Tori works to bridge connections between Africa and Japan.

Awa'Toriの創立者は、アントレプレナーになる道のりが決して簡単ではないことをよく理解しています。今回のミニインタビューで、その体験談を語ってもらいました。

共同創設者兼CEOのブッキーは、「レガシーを残したい」との思いを語り、「たとえ翌日亡くなっても私を思い出してもらえる何かを残したい」と説明してくれました。彼女が初めて挑戦したビジネス案件では、腕時計業界のパートナーを探しましたが、何度も否定されました。しかし、その否定が彼女を奮い立たせ、粘り強く努力するきっかけとなったのです。

共同創設者兼社長の清子ンバコは、「失敗」という言葉が最初から嫌いでした。彼女は、すべての経験には良い面も悪い面もあり、それが良い学びの機会になると考えています。失敗すると自分を責めることもありますが、その中で自分の独自のスキルを磨き、さまざまな分野で貢献することが、アントレプレナーとしての道に繋がったのです。

The journey of entrepreneurship is no easy feat, and our Founders are no strangers to this. They share tidbits from their experiences in a mini interview we had with them.

With a desire to “leave a legacy” and as she puts it, "...something I would be remembered for if I died the next day", Bukky, co-founder and CEO of Awa’Tori, got politely turned down in her attempt to acquire a watch production partner for her first business idea. A rejection that all but set in motion the drive to keep pushing.

For Seiko, our co-founder and President, “failure” is a word she’s never been a fan of, explaining that each experience that becomes a lesson is a plus point not a negative. Despite being her own harshest critic, she has learned to value and hone her unique skills and contributions in different fields, which has played an instrumental role in her entrepreneurial journey.
