什器として機能しながら、京都の街の繋がりを象徴するような存在となっています。
これら２つの素材の編集・加工のプロセスをドキュメントしました。

⁡
長年京都の数多くの寺や住居の瓦の施工を担ってきた堤瓦商店に依頼し制作された京瓦を用いた什器。実際に京都の家屋で使われていた京瓦を回収し、什器として再活用されています。いくつかのパーツに分割し、移動することで独立した使用も可能であり、京都の原風景でもある瓦屋根に新たな価値が付与され、什器として機能しています。

Functioning as fixtures within the space, they simultaneously stand as symbolic elements that reflect the continuity and interconnectedness of Kyoto’s urban fabric.

We documented the process of editing and crafting these two materials.

02 KAWARA
⁡
Fixtures made using Kyo-gawara tiles, produced in collaboration with Tsutsumi Kawara Shoten, a company that has long been responsible for installing roof tiles on many temples and residences in Kyoto.
⁡
The tiles were reclaimed from actual houses in Kyoto and repurposed as fixtures. They are divided into several parts and can be used independently by rearranging them. The kawara roof, an original landscape of Kyoto, is given new value and functions as a fixture within the space.

01 焼杉
⁡
京都ともゆかりのある、奈良・吉野の豊永林業により制作された焼杉のベンチ。空間には、約200-300kgほどある焼杉のベンチが3つ設置されています。杉の表面を焼いて炭化させる伝統的な木材の加工技術である焼杉は、防虫・防腐・耐火性を高め、家屋における木の実用性を高めるための先人の知恵が凝縮された伝統的な技法です。

01 YAKISUGI
⁡
A Yakisugi bench crafted by Toyonaga Forestry in Yoshino, Nara—an area historically connected to Kyoto.
Within the space, three Yakisugi benches are installed, each weighing approximately 200–300 kg.
⁡
Yakisugi is a traditional Japanese wood-treatment technique in which the surface of cedar is burned and carbonized.
By enhancing resistance to insects, decay, and fire, this method embodies generations of accumulated knowledge—an enduring technique developed to elevate the practicality and longevity of wood in architecture.
