It all began by a gesture of congratulations, a wedding gift, a beautiful hand-made Kofia, a Kofia like no other....

It brought my attention to this extraordinary skill, a skill which is feared to be going into extinction. It was once a popular activity along the East African Coast, mainly Zanzibar, Lamu, Pemba and Mombasa. In Zanzibar the skill of making the detailed pattern-types of Kofia has d

ied out to just to the common simple ones. Thus, I developed an urge to protect the glorious product of this valuable skill, by spreading and maintaining this great culture from its humble background with the rest of the world. A skill for a product that is passed down from generation to generation. One that may be taken up as an occupation and to some even just a hobby. So, welcome aboard and sail with me in this initiative adventure of preserving the culture of the handmade Kofias!
