*MILELE*x *AHERI* *COLLECTION *
Milele means forever — a celebration of the fabric that has walked with us through generations.
This series is inspired by Kitenge, a fabric that has witnessed our stories: weddings, childhoods, milestones, ceremonies, and everyday life. It is worn by children, elders, women, and men. Kitenge is heritage that lives with us, grows with us, and continues to evolve — milele, forever.
With this series, I am telling the story of our culture through a contemporary lens — honoring the past, celebrating the present, and imagining the future of African identity through design.
Alongside Milele, I am reintroducing Aheri, the second edition.
Aheri means love — the love we felt through the crocheted pieces made by our mothers, aunties, and grandmothers. The warmth of handmade craft, the patience, the detail, and the memory of growing up with crochet in our homes.
This time, Aheri is not a solo project.
It is created together with a community of elderly women from Kibera, who bring their skill, art, and strength into each piece. Their hands carry the legacy of craft, transforming it into contemporary fashion for the world today.
Milele Featuring Aheri is a meeting point of fabric and craft, of heritage and modernity, of community and creative vision.
It is a celebration of what has been, what is, and what continues — forever.
