Royal Palace and Andong Preng were built during the second quarter of the 10ᵗʰ century C.E. under the reign of Jayavarman IV. The Royal Palace enclosure, measuring approximately 240 m (East-West) and 188 m (North-South), is located approximately 200 m northwest of the Rahal and 500 m south of Prasat Thom. Inside the laterite enclosure of the royal palace; at the northeast corner, there is a rectangular ancient pond called Andong Preng by the local people. Its sandstone embankment measures 56 m (East-West) and 28 m (North-South). This is probably a royal pond as seen in other royal palaces in the Angkor area.

Prasat Chen along with Prasat Banteay Pir Choan and Prasat Thom forms the Trinity temples of the site. Both Prasat Chen and Prasat Banteay Pir Choan are equidistant from centre of Prasat Thom. It consists of a row of three tower shrines facing east, the central one being by far the tallest. Built of laterite, they are on a single terrace and each tower has a stairway from the east with string-walls featuring Garuda with outstretched wings, a rarely used motif in Khmer art, but one which confirms that the temple was dedicated to Vishnu. There were also two brick libraries which are now little more than heaps of rubble. The quaint name which the Khmers have given to Prasat Chen is due to the famous sculpture of the monkey brothers Vali and Sugriva fighting each other in an episode from the Ramayana, and now one of the glories of the National Museum in Phnom Penh. It was discovered amid the ruins of the east gateway to the temple's inner enclosure and the animals' tails, curling up to their diadems, irresistibly suggeseda Chinese pigtail. Prasat Chen have a double laterite 2m high wall enclo-sures, with gopuras to the east and west. The temple had sculptures depicting the fight between the monkey brothers Valin and Sugriva, and sculptures of Rama, Lakshmana and Hanuman, in its eastern gopura. Behind the main towers, nine pedestals adorn the inner western Gopura, depict the last scene of Kurukshetra of Mahabharata; the dual between Bhima and Duryodhana, with Pandavas and Krishna in audience, in ronde-bosse technique which was rare and unique to Koh Ker.

These were constructed at the same time as Prasat Thom. It lies on the axis passing through the middle of the south d**e of Rahal. Prasat Khnar housed a huge Linga which was 7 m high and 4 m in diameter, raised on a giant pedestal (3 m high and 7 m square). Its Linga which was built by assem- bling several blocks of sandstone was considered exceptional as the Lingas of other building comprised monolithic stone structures. A laterite cruciform platform, perhaps its gopura is located in the east and in front of temple tower. Its location on a mound, higher than a reservoir called Trapeang Ang Khnar. The rocks around the Trapeang Ang Khnar are also carved with Hindu deities, the nine planets, Vishnu, Brahma, and other animals allowing the rain and water poured over the Linga and these sacred carving to reach the two large water sources, treated as sacred water and flow to Rahal.

There is a brick Sanctuary of square plan, facing cast, on a high basement with sandstone pavement. This temple has the large adorned sandstone elephants, facing outward at the four corners of the foundation of the central terrace. The four stairways of the temple have fine seated lions which are very impressive. Only one of the eight stone lions is still at the original place on the flight of steps. The main door of the central brick tower is open whereas other three are false doors made of lime mortar. There are bas-reliefs on the walls and pediments. On the main lintel is carved the figure of Indra mounting Airavata. There are two brick north and south "Libraries" of rectangular plan, facing west; enclosed by a laterite wall with brick Gopura east. and west of square plan. Its eastern gopura has inscriptions written in Sanskrit and Khmer, telling the installation of Tribhuvaneshvara on Prasat Prang in Prasat Thom complex.

Angkor, in Cambodia’s northern province of Siem Reap, is one of the most important archaeological sites of Southeast Asia. It extends over approximately 400 square kilometres and consists of scores of temples, hydraulic structures (basins, d**es, reservoirs, canals) as well as communication routes. For several centuries Angkor, was the centre of the Khmer Kingdom. With impressive monuments, several different ancient urban plans and large water reservoirs, the site is a unique concentration of features testifying to an exceptional civilization. Temples such as Angkor Wat, the Bayon, Preah Khan and Ta Prohm, exemplars of Khmer architecture, are closely linked to their geographical context as well as being imbued with symbolic significance. The architecture and layout of the successive capitals bear witness to a high level of social order and ranking within the Khmer Empire. Angkor is therefore a major site exemplifying cultural, religious and symbolic values, as well as containing high architectural, archaeological and artistic significance.

The park is inhabited, and many villages, some of whom the ancestors are dating back to the Angkor period are scattered throughout the park. The population practices agriculture and more specifically rice cultivation.
