Nano Electronics Commercializes Sub-100nm Nano-Replication Technology – Opening the Next Generation Antibacterial Materials Market

Technology transfer from the National NanoFab Center enables “film-to-film” 2D nano-replication beyond the 1,000-nm barrier

A new replication technology capable of mass-producing ultrafine nano-structures below 100 nanometers—surpassing the conventional 1,000-nm limit of roll-to-roll processes—has entered commercialization.

Nano Electronics Corp. (CEO Young-Tae Kim) announced on the 23rd that it has acquired the implementation rights to the “Commercialization Technology for Ultrafine Nano-Structure Replication” (patent title: Nano Imprinting Device and Method) originally developed by the National NanoFab Center (NNFC), led by President Heung-Soo Park. The company aims to apply this technology to the next generation of antibacterial and antifouling functional films.

From 1D to 2D – A Paradigm Shift in Nano-Replication
This technology transfer represents a key outcome of the first-phase results from the Future Nano Materials Core Technology Development Program, initiated last year. The program is led by Dr. Jae-Hong Park of NNFC and Prof. Jun-Gyoon Oh of Dankook University, with Nano Electronics participating as a joint research partner.

Traditional roll-to-roll nano-replication systems mold films along a one-dimensional (line-type) contact area where two rolls meet. This configuration limits contact time and environmental stability, making it impossible to accurately reproduce nano-patterns below 1,000 nm.

In contrast, the new approach developed by NNFC implements a film-to-film (2D plane-type) nano-replication drive system, where the nano-structured mold film and the replica film come into planar contact. This innovation enables high-precision, large-area replication of nano-structures as small as 100 nm or less, paving the way for scalable mass production.

Toward a New Generation of Antibacterial and Antifouling Films
Ultrafine 100-nm-scale nano-structures can dramatically enhance physical antibacterial and antifouling performance, providing a non-chemical approach to suppressing bacterial adhesion. This makes the technology well-suited for applications in antimicrobial protective films, particularly in contexts emphasizing infection prevention and hygiene—such as post-pandemic environments.

Decades of Nano-Fabrication Expertise
Dr. Jae-Hong Park, the principal inventor, has over 20 years of experience in ultrafine nano-structuring technology and has received ministerial commendations from both the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for his contributions to four major technology transfers in this field.

Toward Market Expansion
Nano Electronics, which has previously received both the CES Innovation Award and the Korean Ministry of Environment Award, plans to leverage this breakthrough for commercial applications in the antimicrobial materials market, projected to exceed KRW 550 billion (approx. USD 400 million) by 2026.

Nano Electronics Corp. Enhances Winter Road Safety with “3D Nano Heater” Technology

Every winter, road icing continues to cause significant human and property damage. While conventional heating wires have been embedded in roads as a countermeasure, they are often easily damaged in areas with heavy traffic, limiting their effectiveness as a fundamental solution.

Nano Electronics Corp., which participated in the 2025 Materials, Components & Equipment and Root Technology Exhibition held at KINTEX in Ilsan from the 29th to the 31st, showcased its snow-melting heating film based on “3D Nano Heater” technology, demonstrating significantly higher efficiency compared to conventional heating wires.

According to Nano Electronics Corp., unlike traditional heating products, the 3D Nano Heater achieves electrical conductivity through metallic nano-radiative networks, enabling up to 90% reduction in power consumption compared to existing solutions.

The 3D Nano Heater is a new type of film heater manufactured by depositing copper nanowires onto a polyimide (PI) film via an electrospinning process. A protective coating is applied to the film surface to enhance oxidation resistance and waterproof performance, ensuring durability in harsh outdoor environments.

Currently supplied under the brand name “ECO WAY,” the snow-melting road system can raise road surface temperatures more than four times faster than conventional heating wires. By simplifying the installation process, it also significantly reduces construction costs. Notably, the system avoids common issues associated with traditional deicing agents, such as road corrosion, vehicle damage, and the die-off of roadside trees.

In addition to road applications, the technology can also replace conventional heaters in electric vehicles, providing functions such as defrosting vehicle windows, heating seats and steering wheels, and maintaining battery temperature.

Pio Hong, Director at Nano Electronics Corp., stated, “Although similar research has existed in the past, high development costs prevented such technologies from competing with conventional heating wires. By utilizing copper, Nano Electronics Corp. has made it possible to effectively replace traditional heating wires.”

He added, “Conventional heating wires must be installed at a depth of approximately three centimeters below the ground to melt snow, which makes them vulnerable to damage when used on roads with heavy vehicles or runways. ECO WAY does not suffer from these limitations, which is why it is being adopted across various fields, and installation at ports is currently under consideration.”

Daejeon Public Procurement Service Visits Innovative Product Company Nano Electronics Corp.

The Daejeon Public Procurement Service (PPS) visited a regional innovative company to explore ways to expand access to public procurement markets.

On the 18th, as part of its on-site outreach program, the Daejeon PPS visited Nano Electronics Corp., an innovative product manufacturer located in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. During the visit, officials inspected the company’s production facilities and discussed measures to support its entry into and expansion within the public procurement market.

The snow-melting system developed by Nano Electronics Corp. is a technology that rapidly melts snow and ice by installing copper nano-heating planar heating films beneath road pavement surfaces. The system is designed to help prevent wintertime slip and traffic accidents.

The system was officially designated as an Innovative Product by the Public Procurement Service in September of this year, in recognition of its technological excellence and innovation.

The Innovative Product Designation Program is a government policy under which public institutions serve as early adopters of innovative products to promote technological advancement and the creation of new markets. Products designated under the program are eligible for direct contracting for up to six years.

In addition, designated companies can benefit from a range of market-expansion measures, including pilot purchases funded by the PPS budget, as well as promotional support through expos, Procurement Day events, and other public platforms.

Jung Hak-soo, Head of the Daejeon Public Procurement Service, stated, “We will continue to actively identify and support companies with innovative technologies so that they can smoothly enter and grow within the procurement market. We will make sustained efforts to expand sales channels by linking public demand with innovative solutions.”
