National Registration Bureau (NRB) has announced the commencement of Phase One of the National Birth Registration Campaign, aimed at registering all Malawian children below the age of 16.
In a statement signed by NRB Principal Secretary Patrick Machika, the bureau said the first phase of the exercise will start on January 26, 2026, and will run for 10 days in Chitipa, Likoma, Dedza, Blantyre Rural and Machinga districts.
Machika said the campaign will be implemented in seven phases nationwide and is intended to ensure that every Malawian child is registered and issued with a birth certificate.
The bureau noted that the exercise is targeting Malawian children only, and parents or guardians will be expected to present their national identity cards when registering their children.
The presence of the child at the time of registration will not be required
